Berwyn Police Blotter

Neighborhood Watch: it works when you work it

July 10, 2008
About 11 AM, police sent someone to remove graffiti placed behind businesses in the 6300 block of Cermak the previous day.  At the scene, as he removed the vandalism, the graffiti officer learned the name of a possible suspect.  He immediately relayed the information to the juvenile division.  Juvenile officers went to the house of the 16-year-old male suspect.  As they spoke with the boy, they could see black paint on his fingers.  The boy initially told police the paint was just “dirt from work.” But officers also saw a notebook on the kitchen table, featuring “art” matching the graffiti all over various buildings on Cermak.  Only two hours elapsed from the time the officer got the name to the time of the arrest.  The boy was charged with criminal damage to property.
