Mugger attacks woman in alley by barbershop at 16th and Ridgeland

April 6, 10:57 PM
A 39-year-old Berwyn woman was walking on the north sidewalk in the 6400 block of 16th near Ridgeland, when a man emerged from the alley by Ace of Fades barbershop and grabbed her purse.  He tried to pull her into the alley. She resisted and asked him not to hurt her.  He responded, “Shut up, bitch,” and punched her in the chest.  The victim fell and he ran off with her purse, heading north on Elmwood from 16th.  The purse contained her cellphone, credit cards and a small amount of cash.  The woman says she has seen the man in this area before and can identify him if he is caught.  She described him as a black male in his 30s, 5’ 10” to 6 feet tall, muscular, with a light complexion; wearing a white hooded jacket with a gold or yellow design or writing; blue jeans, and dark boots with a rounded toe. The woman assisted police in creating a composite image of her attacker.
NEXT MORNING, April 7, 6:30 AM, a man called police to say he had found the victim’s IDs, credit cards and checkbook scattered in the street and sidewalk of the 1600 block of Grove.  The property was returned to the victim.  She found two checks missing from her checkbook; also missing were her debit card, Social Security card and state ID card.
