March 29, 2008, 5:56 PM
A woman was backing out of a driveway in the 2300 block of Euclid when a motorcycle struck her back bumper, then careened into a parked Chevy Cobalt. The woman told police she believed the motorcycle was traveling very fast, since she did not see it until impact. The motorcycle’s driver, 19-year-old Jose Arreci of the 2400 block of Euclid, was found prone by the gutter, with two helmets beside him. The Honda CRV motorcycle was three feet from him, lying on its side against the Cobalt. The motorcycle was heavily damaged. Its owner, David A Rivera, was cited for permitting an unauthorized person to drive it, because he knew Arreci had no motorcycle license. Arreci was placed in intensive care at MacNeal Hospital. Police learned his license was suspended. Arreci was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, violation of license classification, and driving while suspended. The woman whose bumper was struck got a ticket for improper backing.
