Berwyn Police Blotter

Melrose Park man charged with felony DUI

June 14, 2008, 3:34 PM
Police stopped a Chevy Lumina in the 1800 block of East for doing 43 MPH in a 20 MPH zone.  A 12-pack of Modelo beer was open in the back of the car, with five full cans and four open, partly-full, still-cold cans in the passenger compartment.  Driver Rodolfo Gonzalez, 33, of Melrose Park, failed field sobriety tests.  He stated he had never been arrested before.  But after his fingerprints were processed, police discovered Gonzalez had numerous previous arrests, some for DUI.  He had also used a different date of birth and the name “Jorge Salinas” in the past.  In addition, he was wanted by the Elgin police department for DUI.  Gonzales had a blood alcohol level of .235, nearly triple the legal limit of .08.  The car was impounded.

After hearing his Miranda rights, Gonzalez reportedly stated he had been speeding when he was pulled over, and that he had an open beer from which he was drinking as he drove.

He was charged with felony aggravated DUI and felony aggravated DUI while his license was suspended.  Other charges included speeding, DUI, DUI of .235, transportation of open alcohol and no seat belt.
