MASKED ROBBERS HIT RESTAURANT
May 25, 2008, 6:21 AM
The owner of a restaurant in the 3800 block of Harlem, reported two employees had just been robbed by men they believed to be armed. The first employee, a Chicago woman, said she went into the building followed by the second woman, a Burbank resident. Suddenly, they heard the door being kicked in. Two men in black ski masks entered. The shorter man held his hand in his sweater so as to imply the presence of a gun. The robbers forced both women to the floor in the kitchen and demanded to know where the money was. The victims said the man they believed had a gun, who spoke Spanish to them, had what they described as a “Puerto Rican or Caribbean” accent. The offenders took about $150, a bank card and a cell phone from one woman’s purse, then stole a knife from the kitchen and fled with it. Police recovered fingerprints. The victims described the robbers: one, they said, was a male white or Hispanic, 5’7”, in dark baggy clothing with the above-mentioned accent. The other, dressed similarly, was a male black about 6’ tall.
