Man stopped on tracks ineligible to drive since ‘03

November 21, 2007, 5:57 PM
An officer at Grove and Windsor saw a black Buick sedan stopped on the train tracks, facing south.  A train was coming; the officer waved at the driver to get him to move off the tracks, and an accident was avoided.  But as the man drove off the tracks he swerved several times, nearly striking two other vehicles.  Driver Norbert A. Nemec, 78, of the 1800 block of Elmwood, had expired plates, which were also registered to a different vehicle.  The officer spoke to Nemec, who denied stopping on the tracks.  He was cited for the registration violations, no insurance, only one working red tail light and driving despite a license that expired four years earlier.
