Man attacked while walking to work

May 27, 2007, 11:16 PM
A 56-year-old man walking to work in the 2400 block of Home was approached by a man asking for a cigarette.  The victim said he had none.  The offender then requested a lighter.  After the victim told him he did not have a lighter, either, the stranger lunged at him, knocked him to the ground, and told him to hand over his wallet. The attacker hit the victim on the head four times. The victim grabbed the attacker by the shirt and yelled for help.  The attacker then fled in a brown vehicle. The victim described him as a black male in his 20s, clean shaven, wearing a green cap and a dark T-shirt and dark pants.
