Berwyn Police Blotter
Loaded rifle with fake serial number found in street
May 21, 2007, 10:41 PM
An officer driving in the 3600 block of Elmwood spotted what looked like a rifle lying in the street next to a Ford sedan. When the officer looked more closely, the weapon appeared to be an assault-type rifle, loaded with two banana-clip style magazines. Police secured the area and a sergeant inspecting the weapon found it was not only loaded, but ready to fire—the safety was off. Police interviewed the Ford owner and other neighbors, but nobody had seen the weapon in the street. It was a Norinco MAK-90 Sporter; the clips held 7.62 x 39 MM bullets. A check of the weapon’s serial number showed “No Record on File”.
