License already revoked for DUI, but driving nevertheless

October 9, 2008, 5:25 PM
An officer stopped an Impala at Ridgeland and Cermak because its plates were expired and its left brake light was broken.  Driver Manuel Mendez, 27, of 5304 west 23rd, Cicero, told the officer he had no license.  However, the state’s computer database said his license had been revoked for a DUI conviction; he was also convicted of driving with a suspended license. The assistant state’s attorney approved a charge of felony driving despite a revoked license.  Mendez was also charged with driving with expired plates, no insurance, and defective brake light.
