Large disturbed man fights police

June 8, 2007, 12:19 AM
A 50-year-old man who had just escaped from MacNeal Hospital informed the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad that he intended to commit suicide by train.
Police found him and returned him to the emergency room.  An hour later, the man ran back out of MacNeal wearing a hospital gown, and returned to his residence in the 3100 block of Oak Park Avenue.  Police found him once more and were escorting him to a hospital room when he broke free and ran.  Three officers tried to grab the 280-pound man, who kneed one officer in the groin, then punched a hospital guard in the face and threatened to kill him.  It took four men to control the escapee, who was finally handcuffed and readmitted to the hospital.  When released, he will be charged with battery and resisting arrest.
