Raven-haired mystery woman steals, destroys Jeep

A 2002 gray Jeep SUV disappeared from behind the 1600 block of S. Oak Park Ave. and reappeared on a home surveillance video speeding twice within four minutes up an alley in the 3300 block of Clinton until it “turned and slid in snow off the roadway striking a fence.” Neighbors hearing the crash called police who found the car with “heavy front end damage” parked close by in the 6900 block of Windsor. Police viewed a home video of the crash and noted that the driver was a female subject with long black hair. The owners told police that the car lacked a back windshield (covered with plastic), had temporary plates, and contained a spare key. Inside the recovered-but-destroyed car, owners identified a foreign blue Sox cap, a stereo faceplate and a tiger-striped cell phone case as not belonging to them

Graffiti was found in the 3400 block of Highland and the 1400 block of Clinton.


Traffic sign knocked down

A stop sign was felled in the 6600 block of 34th St. Police found tire tracks, but no other evidence.

Doors damaged

A business in the 6700 block of Cermak sustained damage to both front and back doors possibly with a crow bar, leading the owner to speculate that a former employee with gang ties had returned to rob the restaurant.

Woman dies in front of house

Passersby found a non-responsive woman sitting in a wheelchair in front of a house in the 3400 block of Ridgeland with her keys and checkbook. A family member told police that the woman, age 59, said on the phone earlier that she was going to the corner for cigarettes.

A man lost his debit /credit cards and iphone from the 2004 Chevy he left unattended—engine running—in the 6500 block of Cermak.

Stolen pipes cause gas leak

Broken and stolen pipes in the basement of a vacant foreclosed house in the 1300 block of Cuyler allowed natural gas to leak into the dwelling until it reached a 3% concentration and neighbors complained of the smell.  Police found the back door forced open. The fire department disconnected the gas.

Craigslist sex stings

Police arrested two women who advertised sex services on Craigslist and met undercover officers in a building in the 6400 block of W. 31st St. Dolores Sosa, 18, of Chicago and Storie R. Kunz, 20, of Calumet city both agreed to sexual services in exchange for money from two officers.  They were arrested after they accepted the money and removed their clothes.

A black Honda Passport in the 3000 block of Wesley was found with damage to the rear side window.


Cruelty to animals

Claudia Rodriguez, 32, of the 3300 block of Harvey, was ticketed for animal cruelty after an officer and neighbor observed that she had left a white medium sized dog outside all night in the backyard without food, water or shelter in freezing temperatures. The officer bought the animal food himself after being unable to contact anyone in the residence.  Rodriguez told police that she had been “out all night.”


GPS units stolen

Two cars lost GPS units when burglars broke the driver’s side windows in the blocks of 3800 Ridgeland and 7100 W. 39th St.


Old car missing

A maroon 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette disappeared from the parking lot of a building in the 7100 block of 26th St.

Wallet lifted in Cermak Plaza

A woman’s wallet disappeared as she shopped in Discovery Clothing in Cermak plaza. She lost $1000, a driver’s license and credit cards.
