Isolated battery victim texts for help
July 27, 2008, 7:21 AM
A woman in the 1800 block of Harlem called police asking for help following a fight with her boyfriend. Police arrived at the building, and after some time, residents let them inside. A man came to the door, and police told him that they had received a call for help. The man, Luis M. Nunez, 24, told officers there was “no problem”. Police told him to go get his girlfriend. When she came out of the bedroom, Nunez reportedly stated “she’s ok”, but would not allow the woman to answer.
Police separated the two in order to talk to the victim alone. The woman, who appeared injured, told police she was very afraid of Nunez and had texted a friend to get help. Officers took nine photographs of the woman’s facial and other injuries The victim said the argument started when she arrived home; she said the offender threw her to the ground, scraping both her arms, after which they went upstairs. At 6:15 AM, she said, Nunez noticed she had a cell phone, got upset, and punched her in the face and back, leaving visible bruises on her eye and cheek. The victim was able to text-message for help. She told police he has hit her before. Nunez was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic battery; police learned his most recent arrest was in Chicago for aggressive intimidation.
