Berwyn Police Blotter

Interrupted in mid-burgle: offender drops tool, runs away

August 29, 2007, 11:49 PM
A caller in the 2200 block of Grove called police to report a man was banging on the side of a house.  En route to the scene, police got an update:  now the man was inside a tan SUV parked on that block.  Police pulled in behind the tan Chevy Blazer, shone a spotlight inside it and saw a man move from the driver’s seat across the passenger seat and jump out through the passenger door.  He threw down a large screwdriver and fled westbound through gangways in the 2200 block of Grove.  Police chased him, yelling “police”, but the man did not stop.  He removed a brown hoody and flung it to the ground as he ran.  Police chased the man through three different yards before losing sight of him.  The original caller could not described the offender except she believed he was black.  The Blazer had a broken window and a damaged steering column.  One officer was injured by a fall during the foot chase.  The car yielded fingerprints, and the investigation continues.
