Berwyn Police Blotter

Improper turn, too little or too much light, and registration abuse

March 24, 2008, 8:15 AM
A white Chevy Lumina exited the rear of Cermak Plaza by making a left turn onto southbound Harlem, despite the posted sign prohibiting such a turn.  Driver Victor Avelar, 18, of Cicero, was cited for the improper turn and for driving unlicensed.

A Chevy SUV traveling south on Wesley from Cermak was observed with only one working red brake light.  An officer stopped driver Stefanie Rangel, 24, of the 2300 block of Scoville, and cited her for the equipment violation, as well as for driving despite a revoked license.  The latter required the SUV be impounded.
9:13 PM
Because it had its high-beam headlights on, an officer stopped a black Buick sedan on Cermak at Clinton.  Driver Fernando R. Soto, 22, of Cicero, was cited for failure to dim lights when required, driving on a suspended license, expired registration and improper use of registration—the last charge because even though there was a valid registration sticker on the rear plate, it belonged to a different vehicle.  The Buick was impounded.
