Berwyn Police Blotter

“He started it!”

March 13, 2008, 9:03 PM
Police responding to a 911 call spoke with some young people, who said they were returning from a visit to the minimart at 16th and Oak Park when a group of gang members struck them.  The offenders then entered a house in the 1500 block of Grove, east side.  Police approached the house in question, where they encountered a 22-year-old man.  He knew of the incident, but stated that one of the complainants—a young man from the same block—started it by proclaiming himself a “killa” of the opposing gang’s members, then taking a swing at one of them.  Police proceeded down the block to discuss this new information with the inmates of the other house; they were described as “not happy and refused to talk to us.” So dispatchers called the complainants back; this time, the complainant said no police assistance was needed after all.
