Berwyn Police Blotter

Ghost in the machine

May 22, 2008, 9:20 AM
An officer stopped a Mazda MPV at Oak Park and Roosevelt after hearing the car’s stereo—audible as far as 12 car lengths away—from the 1400 through the 1200 blocks of Oak Park.  Driver Ronald M. Lewis, 24, of the 6900 block of south Jeffery, Chicago, told police he did install a post-factory stereo and speakers and knew it was too loud, but said he had just put the face-plate on and and the radio turned on by itself.  He received a $500 ticket for the noise violation.  The Mazda was impounded; an inventory of the vehicle revealed the presence of two “Pyle Dryvers” subwoofers mounted in a box in the rear.
