GANG SLOGAN-SHOUTING PRECEDED SHOOTING OF JUVENILE IN FRONT OF RESIDENCE
September 13, 2008, 10 PM
Police responding to a report of “shots fired” in the 1600 block of Elmwood found a 12-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his left calf.
Witnesses said they heard a disturbance in front of a two-flat on the east side of the block, then saw a white Cadillac stopped in the middle of the street. Three men stayed in the car. The two who exited the Caddy man yelled gang slogans demonstrating scorn for a street gang known to be very active in Berwyn, and support for a different street gang, at several people sitting on the front step of the residence. Then one of the men pulled out a gun and fired five or six shots at the porch-sitters before driving away.
Police seek information on the car and five people reportedly seen in it. It was described as a white or pearl-color 1991 Cadillac featuring a gold grille and a gold ragtop.
The men who exited the car, one of whom fired the shots, are described as male whites. The shooter reportedly wore a white hoodie and a black cap.
