Flimflam men misdirect elderly lady

November 16, 2007, 1:33 PM
An 84-year-old woman reported money missing from her home after a visit from two strange men. The woman, a resident of Harvey Ave. south of 26th, said she heard both her front and side doorbells ring.  She answered the front door to a man who claimed he was doing work next door, saw a hole in her roof and offered to repair it.  He said he would charge $4,000, but less than that if she paid him cash.  He then led her through her house to her rear window, where he told her to look outside at his work truck.  The woman then heard a second male voice in the house. She told the first man she did not want him to do anything, and he left.  After his departure, the homeowner discovered $600 dollars she had concealed was missing. The victim described the offender as a male white in his late 30s to early 40s, stocky, wearing a grey jacket and dark glasses (even indoors).
