Fighting mob outside nightclub leads to felony charges, injured officer

June 2, 2007, 2:24 AM
An officer sent to a disturbance at Inclusive nightclub, 6319 Roosevelt, saw about 40 people in front of the club, five or six of whom were fighting, so he called for backup.  The officer tried to separate two men who were pushing each other, but one fled on foot.  The detained men refused to put his hands behind his back.  While the first officer tried to handcuff the detained man, six or seven people surrounded him.  A man approached him from behind with a cane raised as if to strike, but was stopped by a second officer’s pepper-spray.  The cane-wielding man refused commands to lie on the ground, so he was assisted to the ground and handcuffed.  Another man in the crowd told police “We’ll take care of this,” and was told by police to leave.  Instead, he aggressively approached a police officer. He too had to be peppery-sprayed to be handcuffed.  Next, a woman approached the officer and refused to stay away, saying “I’m not going anywhere, I’m staying right here!” She was handcuffed.
After that, an officer saw a man trying to hit a woman with a tire iron.  As police approached the assailant, he dropped the tire iron and fled south into the neighborhood on Highland.  Police followed on foot.  The man ran through someone’s yard, through an alley and over a fence.  When police caught up, he disobeyed orders to stop, and butted one cop with his shoulder.  The officer wrestled him to the ground but needed a Taser to subdue him.  Paurice L. Rose, 30, of Chicago, was charged with one count of mob action and one count of resisting an officer; Katrina Jones, 26, of Chicago, charged with mob action; Lawrence J. Tolliver, 27, of Chicago, charged with one count of mob action and one count of obstructing an officer; and Sedale B. Miller, 19, of Chicago, charged with one felony count of aggravated battery to a police officer and one felony count of resisting an officer.
