Fight over woman gets T-bird damaged

September 7, 2008, 1:52 AM
Police responding to a call of several men fighting located three males—all running—at 36th and Clarence. They were two 21-year-olds and a 20-year-old, all of Cicero.  The three said several other men had chased them.

Meanwhile, another officer came in contact with the alleged chasers in the 3500 block of Wesley; these men said that they, not the others, were the real victims.  One of the latter three, a 21-year-old Brookfield man, positively identified one of the 21-year-old Cicero men as the offender who broke his car window and cell phone.

The Brookfield man said the fight began over a woman known to both groups. He signed a complaint of criminal damage against Joseph J. Backlund, 21, of the 3600 block of south 61st Ct, Cicero, for reportedly breaking a window and the rear windshield of his 1996 Ford Thunderbird, using a brick.  When the victim tried to call police, the offender allegedly snatched away his cell phone and slammed it to the ground, destroying it.
