Felony theft charge after chase
September 12, 2007, 12:32 PM
Dispatchers told police an employee of Guadalajara restaurant (3735 Harlem) was chasing a theft suspect north across Ogden. Witnesses described the man wearing an orange baseball cap and carrying a green duffle bag. An officer in the area saw a man running across Harlem, and stopped him. The green duffle was thrown down in an alley on the westside of the 3700 block of Harlem, in Riverside.
A witness positively identified Bardhyl Lleshi, 32, of Lyons. Workers said he entered Guadalajara at 12:30 and began pushing cash register keys. They said when the drawer popped open, he grabbed some cash and ran out with a male employee on his heels. The worker caught up to him on the north side of Ogden and grabbed the suspect’s shoulders. The suspect threw down cash he held in his hand and ran across Harlem, where police captured him.
The thrown-down cash was recovered, a total of $110; however, the register was low a total of $186, so a complaint was signed for theft.
The duffle bag contained a set of wheel locks, a pair of seat belt adjusters, two sets of “Optx” LED tire lights and 2 STANT thermostats. There was no receipt for the items. Lleshi was charged with one count of felony theft.
