Berwyn Police Blotter

Felony in boot removal

May 22, 2007, 4:47 PM
Police answered a theft in progress call in the 1900 block of Clarence.  They found a tarp-covered pink Honda Civic on a trailer.  Nearby was a Ford pickup truck, with Berwyn Police Dept. “boot” #3 clearly visible in its truckbed.  A 22-year-old man near the Ford told police the Honda was his, and he owed $2500 in fines, but insisted some of the fines were incurred by a previous owner.  He said the Honda was booted only the day before, and that he barely applied any force to the boot when it “fell off”.  The man told police he was planning to sell parts of the Honda to pay the fines, but was unable to specify how—or when—he planned to return the “boot” to the Berwyn Police Department.  He was charged with felony theft.
