Felony charge after wanted man caught not wearing seat belt

September 18, 2008, 11:10 AM
Police in the 3700 block of Ridgeland stopped a white Chevy Blazer whose driver wore no seat belt.  The driver initially told the officer he was “Jason Antunez”. He gave the same answer twice.  But when the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle, he reportedly said, “Ok, my real name is Jorge Lopez and my license is suspended”.  Except it was not suspended:  it had been revoked.  In addition, Lopez was wanted on an active Illinois Dept. of Corrections warrant for parole violation.  He was arrested; his driving record showed he already had three convictions for driving on a suspended or revoked license.  After being read his rights, Lopez told police he took his brother’s truck, without his brother’s knowledge, from the 1200 block of Ridgeland.  Lopez was charged with felony driving on a revoked license, no insurance and no seat belt.
