Felony battery charges in beating of 69-year-old man

July 23, 2008, 9:51 AM
Police were dispatched on reports of a beating in the 2100 block of Harvey.  Streams of blood ran down the face of the victim—a 69-year-old man from that block—from his right ear.  The wound required five stitches to close.  Witnesses told police the offender approached the victim as the victim was sweeping the sidewalk, and hit him several times about the face.  The offender, witnesses said, lives next door and regularly bothers his neighbors.* The victim had just told the offender to stop harassing people when the beating occurred.  Police found Peter Ingoglia, 47, of 2140 Harvey, walking in the 6500 block of Cermak; witnesses identified him as the offender.

After being read his rights, Ingoglia reportedly told police: “Why am I here? That old man tried to kill me.  He threw a bucket of sand at me.  He threw a bucket of water at me and hit me with a broomstick. He danced on me when I was dying.  I’m being framed for their wrongdoings. He tried to kill me.  I have a witness and his name his Mike.  I don’t know his last name or where he lives.” Witnesses told police that at no time did the victim attempt to strike Ingoglia.  Ingoglia was charged with felony aggravated battery, and felony aggravated battery with a victim over age 60.
