If you were fortunate enough to be within earshot of the 3100 block of Oak Park at that time, you may have had the pleasure of seeing men and women screaming at each other, surrounded by a crowd. When police came to the fight, outside Cherry Lounge, 3144 Oak Park, 30 to 40 people were watching as two men and three women screamed at each other. The combatants were a 19-year-old woman from the 3100 block of Ridgeland; a 21-year-old woman from the 2400 block of East; a 44-year-old Cicero woman; a man, age 20, from the 2500 block of Harvey; and a 26-year-old Cicero man.
The 19-year-old woman told police she was in Cherry Lounge for a “family party”, even though she was under 21. The bar manager, 43-year-old Christopher Zajac of the 6800 block of 30th Place, received a ticket for permitting a minor into the bar.
The “family party” was intended to celebrate the 21-year-old woman combatant’s 21st birthday, leading to the following sequence of events: the birthday girl got into an argument with her child’s father; the child’s dad’s brother’s girlfriend then took a swing at her. The 44-year-old woman then hit the girlfriend, leading the baby-daddy’s brother to punch the 44-year-old. The 44-year-old’s boyfriend “jumped” the baby-daddy’s brother, who responded in kind. Also, at one point, two women allegedly attacked the baby-daddy’s brother’s girlfriend using high-heeled shoes.
Nobody would sign a complaint for any of this battery, however, giving as a reason that they were “family”.
