Berwyn Police Blotter

Excessive noise escalates to battery

August 16, 2008, 7:22 PM
At 6529 Stanley, fellow building tenants complained to police of loud music and singing as an ongoing problem from an apartment.  When police arrived, they could easily hear the din from the street below.  Police tried to get the offender to answer his door, but he initially ignored their efforts.  After making police wait, Antonio Casillas, 46, finally opened his door and began swearing at them.  An officer advised him of the reason for the visit.  Casillas appeared to police to be intoxicated, and an odor of alcohol was noticeable on his breath.  Casillas demanded to know “who called the cops on me”, and announced that he could keep his music as loud as he wished until 11 PM or midnight.  Throughout the encounter he yelled and swore at police.  Casillas grabbed an officer’s wrist and twisted his arm in an apparent effort to look at the officer’s wristwatch.  At that, the officer spun Casillas around and handcuffed him.  Casillas was arrested for battery to an officer and for the noise violation.
