Drivers stopped in Ridgeland safety check learn that not only seat belts, but licenses, are required

Police ran a seat belt safety operation in the 2900 block of Ridgeland, stopping every third car. One car stopped in this way was a green Honda Accord piloted by 37-year-old Twian D. King of the 2800 block of Ridgeland. King had a suspended license, which meant the Accord was impounded. King also received a $100 ticket for marijuana found in his pocket.

Third car: a Ford Escort, impounded after police learned driver Kevin A. Krasny, 22, of the 2800 block of Harvey, was driving despite a suspended license.

The driver of a Dodge pickup truck stopped by police in the random safety check told police he had no license or insurance; Jose M. Ochoa, 40, of the 2500 block of Highland, identified himself using a Mexican Consulate ID card. A computer check of his name showed Ochoa’s license had expired more than a year earlier. The truck was towed, and Ochoa cited for driving without license or insurance.

A Chevy Blazer driven by Ma G. Arroyo-Cruz of Cicero was stopped because it was the third car. The driver had only a Mexican ID, and was cited for driving unlicensed and uninsured.

Police stopped a silver Monte Carlo driven by Ivan Morales, 32, of the 7000 block of 34th. A check of his name showed he was wanted on a Dupage County arrest warrant for reckless driving. Morales was issued tickets for driving on a revoked license and without insurance. The car was impounded.

A black Honda Civic was stopped in the 2900 block of Ridgeland because the driver wore no seat belt. Jose Martinez, 23, of the 3000 block of south Spalding, Chicago, also lacked insurance and was driving even though the state had revoked his license. He was ticketed for all three offenses and the Civic was impounded.

Randomly stopped in a safety check, a grey Mercury minivan proved to have a driver with a suspended license. The ticket went to 27-year-old Alma Mendoza of Cicero; the van was impounded.

A blue Infiniti was stopped by police because the passenger wore no seat belt. Driver Miguel Morales, 21, of Cicero, got a ticket for that and for driving even though his license expired more than a year earlier.

Police stopped a maroon Ford pickup during the safety check. Driver Malinda P. Ruiz, 39, of the 3200 block of Lombard, was ticketed for driving without a license.

Another unlicensed driver was stopped in a Ford van in the same location. Raul Martinez, 37, of the 2400 block of north Austin, Chicago, was cited for the offense.
