Driver threatens pedestrian who objected to nearly getting run over

June 20, 2008, 10:26 AM
Police were dispatched to 21st and Oak Park for a fight in progress.  A 27-year-old man from the 1800 block of Clarence told police he was crossing the street when a car sped up and nearly hit him.  As the car passed, the driver yelled at the pedestrian and called him names.  The pedestrian victim told police he jumped out of the way in time and slapped the rear of the passing car.  At this, however, the driver stopped, got out and confronted the pedestrian in the middle of the street.  The driver reportedly screamed and spit in the pedestrian’s face; the pedestrian spit back.  The driver shoved the pedestrian and the fight began.  Both men were injured and had to be treated by paramedics.  The driver, a 48-year-old man from the 2100 block of Oak Park, admitted to the spitting.  Nobody wished to sign a complaint.
