Driver of stolen car found with felony amount of pot

February 22, 2008, 5:54 PM
An officer on Ogden randomly chose an eastbound white Honda Accord for a registration check, and learned the car had been reported stolen out of Milwaukee.  He followed the car and made a felony traffic stop in Cicero at Ogden and Central.  In plain view on the Honda’s back seat was a plastic bag with a brick-like cellophane wrapped chunk of marijuana weighing 1,440.0 grams.  Via a translator, driver Fernando Avitia-Montenegro, 39, was carrying $674.18 in cash; he was charged with one count of felony possession of over 500 grams of marijuana.  The owner of the stolen car was notified it had been found.
