Dog taken hostage in domestic dispute
July 4, 2008, 4:45 PM
A woman told police she and two friends pulled up in front of her residence in the 2500 block of Kenilworth when her live-in boyfriend drove up at high speed in his Ford Explorer, slammed on the brakes and drove up onto the curb. The man proceeded to exit the vehicle and scream at her, she said. He announced he had taken her dog and would not tell her where it was unless she got into the Ford with him. The offender, a 45-year-old man, then put the Ford in reverse, knocking the victim to the ground and injuring her arm.
Police went to the home of the offender’s parents, in the 2700 block of Clarence, where they found and took custody of the dog. The offender was not present. The Ford was parked out front; police seized it because it was used to commit a crime, then left a message on the man’s voicemail.
