DUI suspect mumbles his ABCs
While driving southbound on Harlem at 2 a.m. on May 26, a Forest Park officer noticed a vehicle swerving from the curb to the center of the street, according to a department report. The officer turned on his siren and stopped the driver on the 1100 block of Harlem Avenue.
Mark Blaylock, 21, already had his wallet out when the officer arrived at his car, and quickly handed over his driver’s license. The driver then began to search for his proof of insurance in a black binder. After 30 seconds of searching, Blaylock allegedly asked the officer if he had his driver’s license. The officer informed the driver that he did have his license, at which point Blaylock began searching for his insurance again. After 30 more seconds Blaylock reportedly again asked the officer if he had his driver’s license. The officer then asked the driver to step out of the car.
Blaylock, a Berwyn resident, stepped out of the vehicle, put his hands behind his back and said “you got me,” according to a department report. The officer responded by telling Blaylock he was not under arrest, and asked if he could recite the alphabet beginning with “D” and ending with “U.” Blaylock agreed and proceeded to say “D, E, N, L” followed by inaudible noises and then “T, U.”
Blaylock proceeded to blow a .155 on a breath test, according to his arrest report. A driver is considered intoxicated if their blood-alcohol level is .08. In addition to charges for driving under the influence, Blaylock was cited for marijuana possession after police allegedly found a bag of the substance in his car.
