Battery suspect caught with drug pipe near scene
May 17, 2007, 3:10 PM
Police answering a domestic disturbance call found a bleeding 24-year-old woman weeping on the floor of an apartment in the 1600 block of Ridgeland. She said “I think he broke my nose” in reference to her 38-year-old husband, who had fled the scene. He was described as wearing a blue Dallas jersey, and possibly headed for the 900 block of Menard in Chicago. Three children, ages one to five, were present during the incident. The suspect’s brother told police the man was last seen on a bicycle. When police saw a man answering the suspect’s description bicycling past the residence, they stopped him. The man gave a false name—that of his brother—at first. Next, he offered a different false name to police. He was wearing a sweatshirt and was reluctant to remove it for police. When he did, a blue Dallas jersey was revealed. During a patdown, police found a screened glass pipe, of the type used to smoke crack, in the man’s left sock. He was charged with domestic battery, obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
