Berwyn Police Blotter

Bad scene gets worse when mom shows up

August 10, 2007, 5:32 PM
The manager of a business office in the 6900 block of Windsor called police when a fired worker refused to leave the premises.  The worker, 26-year-old Teresa L. Avila of Cicero, had come to collect her check, which was not ready for her because of a problem with the hours, according to the manager.  Avila was asked many times to leave but would not, so police were summoned.  While police were present, Avila’s mother—Teresa S. Avila, 49, of Lyons—walked up to the manager in a threatening manner and made threatening statements.  Both Avilas resisted three police commands to leave, so they were arrested.  The elder Avila hit an officer in the face in her struggle to resist handcuffs.  The younger Avila grabbed the arm of the officer handcuffing her mom.  Teresa L. Avila was charged with trespassing and obstructing an officer.  Teresa S. Avila was charged with trespassing and assault.
