Bunch of drivers with no or suspended licenses stopped at safety checkpoint

May 13, 2008, 5:17 PM
Police running a safety checkpoint near Harlem and Cermak were stopping random vehicles, as well as vehicles with obvious violations.  A grey Mazda sedan, stopped randomly, was impounded after police learned the license of its driver had been suspended since June of 2006.  Derrick D. Roland, 37, of the 1100 block of south Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, was charged with driving on a suspended license.

A grey Pontiac Grand Am was pulled over in the 7100 block of Cermak at random.  Driver Eduardo Juarez of Bartlett had no license and was cited for the offense.

The driver of a randomly-stopped Ford Bronco was unable to produce the required driver’s license, identifying himself via a Mexican ID instead.  At the police station, officers learned that driver Armando Rodriguez, 29, of the 4500 block of south Whipple, Chicago, initially supplied them with false birth date information.  He received tickets for driving unlicensed and for obstruction.
6:03 PM
Pulled over in a red Yukon, driver Elise Garcia-Gomez, 21, of Stone Park, was cited for driving unlicensed and uninsured.
6:33 PM
Randomly stopped, a tan Altima with a temporary Wisconsin plate was driven by a woman who could not provide a license or insurance.  Sandra L. Sanchez, 27, of the 2900 block of west 56th, Chicago, identified herself using a Mexican ID.  Fingerprints confirmed her identity; she was ticketed for driving with no license and no insurance.
8:31 PM
Police stopped a green Toyota Camry.  Driver Edilberto Moreno, 28, of the 4800 block of west Nelson, Chicago, was cited for driving without a valid license.
