Dancers, uncooperative driver, features of one loud-car stop

Audible down the block from the Lalo’s parking lot, Maple and 32nd, was a tan Lexus. The driver, 38-year-old Sonia Davila of Lyons, was cited for noise.

Police stopped a grey Chevy two-door whose stereo could be heard over 150 feet away in teh 7100 and 7200 blocks of Pershing. The car was impounded; the ticket went to Simon T. Girzynski, 21, of Lyons.

A police sergeant found a large crowd gathered around an extremely loud blue Chevy minivan parked in the rear of Circuit City, 2200 Home. He told them to disperse. The driver, a 41-year-old man from the 1500 block of Clarence, told the sergeant he was waiting there to pick up his stepdaughter from high school, because she was involved in a fight the previous day. The man said it was one of the teen’s friends who had turned the van’s stereo up high, and they all began to dance on the bumper and hang on the van while waiting.
The sergeant informed the man that he was getting a $500 noise ticket; the man refused to sign it and said he would “call the chief and sue” the officer. The sergeant told the driver to removed his things from the van, because it was being towed. The man stated he and his things were staying put. The man was given a choice: cooperate, or be arrested for obstruction. The man finally did as he was told and the van was impounded.

WEDGE officers were in the 2300 block of Cuyler in response to a gang loitering complaint. While there, they stopped a very loud red Honda two-door traveling westbound on 24th. It was impounded, and driver Leonardo Ramirez, 21, of Cicero was cited for noise as well as driving unlicensed and uninsured.

At 13th and Oak Park, police stopped a red Nissan Sentra so loud it could be heard over 200 feet away. Driver Luis Galindo, 23, of the 700 block of south Grove, Oak Park, was issued a noise violation ticket.

Aural offender’s car towed

A caller informed police of a suspicious man in the Burger King parking lot, blasting loud music from a car. Officers came to the 3400 block of Harlem and found a man in a blue Toyota Corolla, as the caller had described. The loud Toyota was towed because of the noise ordinance violation. Driver Gabriel Martinez-Cordona, 18, of the 3000 block of south Kedvale, Chicago, wore no seat belt; he also had no license or insurance. He told police the car belonged to his brother.

Traffic accidents, two involving buses

After an accident at 26th and Riverside Drive involving a Dodge Caravan and a bus, the minivan was towed. Driver Blanca Bonilla, 30, of the 2700 block of south Keeler, Chicago, received tickets for driving without license or insurance, as well as for failing to secure a child in a carseat.

A Pace bus and a Honda Civic were in an accident in the 3800 block of Ridgeland. One driver, 18-year-old Pamela Garcia, had no license; only a learner’s permit. Garcia was cited for driving unlicensed and uninsured.

In the 7100 block of Roosevelt, an accident involved a Toyota Corolla and a Mistubishi Galant. Woodridge resident Issa L. Jones, 26, was ticketed for driving with no license or insurance.

Lincoln limo towed, Chicagoan’s car wears wrong plates

Police stopped a white Lincoln Town Car limousine, eastbound on Roosevelt in the 7000 block, because it lacked the requisite safety-inspection sticker. Driver Troy Taylor, 43, of Bellwood, was driving despite the suspension of his license. He was cited for no sticker, no insurance and the suspended license, and the limo was towed.

Expired license plates caused police to stop a black Chevy Silverado in the 1900 block of East. The plates were not only expired; they did not match the vehicle. Driver Jose Garcia, 38, of the 3000 block of south Harding, Chicago, was cited for expired registration, improper use of registration, no safety-inspection sticker, and failure to transfer title.

Long-expired license

Officers checking for safety violations at 23rd and Harlem stopped a red Buick sedan with no front plate. The driver, 27-year-old Damaris Calixto of the 2900 block of north Oak Park, Chicago, was cited for the missing plate, lack of insurance and driving despite a license that expired in June, 2001.

Felony arrest for Oak Lawn man in traffic stop

Police stopped a white Chevy Blazer after seeing it disobey a flashing red traffic light at Harlem and 25th. The driver, Hosan Jadrwi, 34, of Oak Lawn, had a revoked license. He was convicted of DUI in 2003, and was cited for driving on the revoked license in 2004. An assistant state’s attorney approved one felony count of aggravated driving with license revoked. A check of Jadrwi’s name revealed he was on parole, so his felony arrest had to be reported to the Illinois Dept. of Corrections. He was also cited for misdemeanor driving on a revoked license; driving without insurance, and disobeying a traffic control device.

Traffic accidents with injuries

An accident with injuries in the 2100 block of Oak Park involved a pickup truck vs a minivan. One driver, a 22-year-old man from the 1200 block of Wenonah, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving without insurance.

In the 2200 block of Harlem, a Chevy Cavalier and a tractor-trailer had an accident. The truck driver stated he was stopped in traffic when struck from the rear by the other vehicle. Driver Julian Ortega, 18m, of Cicero received tickets for driving uninsured and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Seat belt stops

An officer at 16th and Gunderson noticed the driver of a green GMC van wore no seat belt. The man, a 35-year-old from the 1800 block of Scoville, was arrested because his license had been revoked. He was cited for the above as well as driving uninsured.

In the same area and for the same reason, police stopped a Chevy Lumina. The driver, a 21-year-old man from the 1800 block of Wenonah, was cited for no belt and no license.

Hit and run due to panic

A caller reported seeing a red Ford Escort strike a parked Suburban in the 2400 block of Oak Park, then drive away. The caller reported the plate, enabling police to come to an address in Lyons, where they saw a red Escort with front-end damage. The owner, an 88-year-old woman, stated she was involved in an accident, but panicked and drove away because of the traffic building up behind her vehicle.

Only one headlight

Police stopped a red Mercury minivan in the 2500 block of Ridgeland because it had only one working headlamp. The driver, a 34-year-old man from the 1900 block of Scoville, was cited for that as well as for driving without insurance and on a suspended license; the vehicle was towed.

200-foot noise violation gets SUV towed

Police stopped a maroon Ford Expedition because it could be heard 200 feet away in violation of Berwyn’s noise ordinance. Driver Christian Melendez, 28, of Cicero, was cited for noise and the SUV was impounded.

Flag-wavers neglect seat belt safety

A black 1996 Ford Explorer, heading west on Cermak from the 6200 block, was stopped at Ridgeland and Cermak because both front a rear passengers were hanging outside the SUV’s windows in an unsafe manner while displaying a Mexican flag. The driver, 20-year-old Yessica Y. Enriquez of Cicero, told police she had no license to drive. The Explorer was towed, and Enriquez ticketed for driving with no license or insurance, and for passengers not using seat belts.

Officers monitoring Cermak for seat belt violations stopped a brown Suburban at Cuyler and Cermak. The westbound vehicle had two passengers hanging out the windows waving a Mexican flag. Driver Rodrigo Ibarra of Cicero had a license that expired in September, 2004. He was cited for no license and for wearing no seat belt himself and permitting passengers to go without belts also.

Plates expired, red light ignored

An officer stopped a silver Lincoln Town Car at Oak Park and Ogden for having expired registration. Upon closer inspection, the officer noticed the expiration date had been altered with a black marker. The driver, who stated he had no license or insurance, identified himself as Jose K. Sanchez, 39, of Phoenix, Arizona. A computer check revealed no license on file for Sanchez. He was cited for expired registration, improper use of registration, no license or insurance, and failure to transfer title.

A tan GMC Yukon drove through a red light on Cermak and was pulled over by police. The driver, a 22-year-old man from the 2100 block of Ridgeland, was cited for the blown stop as well as driving unlicensed. A check of his name revealed he was already wanted by Berwyn police.

Two car accident on Cuyler

A Honda Accord and a Dodge Intrepid were involved in an accident in the 3200 block of Cuyler. Both cars were towed. One driver—19-year-old Felipe Macias of the 5200 block of south Sacramento, Chicago—was cited for improper lane use, as well as driving with no license or insurance.

Wrong guy driving and volume too loud

An officer in the 2100 block of Scoville stopped a blue Volkswagen Jetta because its loud stereo could be heard 150 feet away. The driver, Fernando Arias, 23, of Cicero, told police he had no license, producing instead a Mexican ID card. He was cited for driving unlicensed and for the noise violation. The owner of the car, a 21-year-old woman from the 2100 block of Scoville, told the officer she had given Arias permission to drive even though she knew he had no license to do so. She was issued a ticket for allowing an unauthorized person to drive.
