No headlights, no license

Police stopped a tan Ford Windstar at Scoville and Cermak because despite the darkness, its headlights were turned off.  Driver Braulio Trujillo, 21, of the 2300 block of Harvey, told police it was his brother-in-law’s car, and he himself and never possessed a driver’s license. He was cited for the above offenses and also for having a loud muffler.

Accident & alley abuse

October 23, 2007, 4: 19 PM
An accident at 13th and Harlem involved a Ford van, a Jeep, and Toyota SUV.  One driver, 32-year-old Daniel Rodriguez of Plainfield, was cited for improper lane use and no insurance.
6:12 PM
An officer noticed a black Chevy sedan traveling eastbound through the northside alley behind Cermak, near Wesley.  Driver Mark Lee, 50, of the 4400 block of south Iowa, Chicago, was cited for prohibited alley traffic and driving on a suspended license.  The Chevy was impounded.

Suspicious driving

October 22, 2007
A red Lincoln Towncar was observed sitting motionless for a full minute in a traffic lane near Home and Stanley, before turning onto Wenonah.  Police stopped driver Gerardo Bolanos, 18, of the 1800 block of Maple, who had no license. The car was towed, and Bolanos was charged with improper parking on the roadway and driving unlicensed.

Casual approach to rules of road

Police approached a tan Toyota parked by Irving school in the 3500 block of Clinton.  The car was parked facing southbound, but in the northbound lane with its left wheel against the curb.  Police spoke with driver Nury N. Rodriguez, 23, of the 3100 block of Cuyler, who said she had no license and was in a hurry to drop her child off at school.  Rodriguez was advised of the Vienna Convention, and signed a notification she did not want the Mexican consulate informed of the incident.  She was charged with improper parking in the roadway and driving without a license.

Alley misuse

An officer stopped a Chevy Tahoe after seeing it exit the 2300 block of Ridgeland/Cuyler alley.  Driver Luis A. Soto, 28, of the 2200 block of Cuyler, had no license and offered the officer only an expired insurance card.  He was cited for prohibited alley traffic, no license, no insurance, no seat belt (front passenger) and illegally having stuff hanging from his rear view mirror.

Child gets education in how not to behave

In the Cermak Plaza parking lot, police found a 25-year-old Chicago woman who said her 29-year-old ex-boyfriend rammed her Ford Focus with his Jeep Cherokee, then ran over her foot before he drove away.  The woman was limping and in pain.  She told police they met in the parking to lot to conduct a child custody exchange of their six-year-old.  Complaints of domestic battery and failure to stop to avoid an accident were signed against the man.

Stopless and signal-free

A black Altima was seen blowing a stop sign at 29th and Ridgeland, then failing to signal a right turn. A computer check of driver Juan Rodriguez-Soria, 29, of the 3700 block of Scoville, showed he was arrested for the same thing less than a week earlier.  He received tickets for disobeying the stop, no signal, no insurance and no license.

Wrong way, damage to hydrant

An officer saw a white Chevy sedan in the 3700 block of Maple, traveling the wrong way on that one-way street.  Driver Rosa Tinjero, 25, of Addison, was charged with improper lane use, as well as driving unlicensed and uninsured.  The Chevy was towed.
3:21 AM
Following an undescribed accident at Wesley and Cermak, 19-year-old driver Mario G. Trejo of Berkeley was cited for improper lane use and damage to unspecified city property.
8:31 AM
Oak Park resident Heriberto Tapia, Jr, was cited for driving a Chevy that rear-ended a Dodge Stratus, then struck a fire hydrant at 14th and East, damaging it.  He got tickets for damage to city property and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Unlicensed teen caught in improper passing maneuver

A juvenile detective checking near Morton West High School saw a blue Dodge Durango exit an alley south of 26th, then go north on the 2500 block of Home, using the parking lane in an attempt to pass all the vehicles stopped in traffic.  Driver Alfredo Chavarria, 17, of the 6500 block fo 28th, had no license to drive, just a learner’s permit.  The Durango was towed, and he was cited for improper lane use and driving without a valid license.

Not even close to green

An officer at the intersection of Oak Park and Cermak saw a red Chevy Trailblazer totally disregard the stop light—a light that had been red for a good 15 seconds already, in his estimate.  The driver, 34-year-old Cicero resident Lilia Gutierrez, was arrested and the SUV towed.  She was cited for disobeying the stop light and for driving without license or insurance.

Zombie stop

WEDGE task force officers stopped a silver Nissan Maxima at Cermak and Euclid.  The driver, 21-year-old Luis Franco of the 2400 block of Harvey, presented an expired driver’s license to police.  Officers could see a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette on the vehicle’s floor; it weighed 2.2 grams.  The Nissan also contained a 1/2 empty 1.75 litre bottle of Bacardi “Zombie” rum.  The car was impounded.  Franco was charged with possession of marijuana, transportation of open alcohol, and driving with an expired license. The drugs and alcohol were confiscated.

Justice, Joliet residents cited after blowing stops; lack of plates gets car stopped

A maroon Ford sedan disregarded a stop sign at 35th and Ridgeland.  Driver Christopher V. Layne, 34, of Justice, got tickets for that and for driving while his license was suspended.

An officer watching for stop sign violators at 18th and Gunderson was rewarded for his vigilance when a black Volkswagen Jetta blew through the clearly posted intersection without stopping.  Driver Yuri Sanchez, 18, of Joliet, had to be identified by fingerprints.  She was cited for disobeying the stop, no insurance, and driving despite never having obtained a license.
5:52 PM
No license plates at all on a red Saturn sedan got it stopped at 16th and Ridgeland.  The car also had only one red tail light.  Driver Eldred M. Lewis, 26, of Forest Park, was cited for the above, and for driving without insurance, while on a suspended license.  The Saturn was impounded.

No tail lights, no license

A blue Mazda sedan was stopped at 14th and Scoville for driving with no red tail lights.  Driver Edgar Reynosa, 18, of the 1800 block of East, was cited for that and for driving despite a license that was suspended.  The Mazda was impounded.

Auto accidents on Ogden, Harlem

A blue Cadillac Deville and a red Ford pickup were involved in an accident in the 3800 block of Harlem.  One driver, 42-year-old Michael P. Ferro of Calumet Park, was cited for following too closely and driving on a suspended license.
8:51 AM
A Chevy Corsica and a Nissan Altima collided in the 6500 block of Ogden.  Cicero resident Jorge Castellanos, 19, received a ticket for driving sans insurance.

A tow truck was involved in a collision with two other vehicles at Ogden and Harlem.  The tow truck driver, 45-year-old Jose A. Lopez of the 3000 block of west 26th, Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license, no seat belt, no safety-inspection sticker, plus several other specifically tow-truck-related tickets.
6:24 PM
Two SUVs were in an accident at Ogden and Kenilworth. One driver, 33-year-old Diana Ramos of Plainfield, was ticketed for driving with no license.

Teens point cops to car from collision

High school students flagged down police after one car left the scene of a two-vehicle accident at 23rd and Home.  The missing participant was stopped at the entrance to Cermak Plaza.  Driver Rosa A. Torres, 45, of Cicero, was issued tickets for making an improper lane change and driving with no license.
