Vandals attack various vehicles

Someone used marker to write on the trunk of a 1998 Volvo parked in the 3600 block of Clarence.

The owner of a Nissan Pathfinder, parked in the 2100 block of Highland, complained she found the vehicle with a tire punctured.  The victim said it was the third tire she’d had punctured this week, but only the first she reported.

In the 2200 block of Gunderson, a Ford truck had its passenger window broken.

Loud Buick impounded

An officer stopped a Buick 4-door at Cermak and East because it could be heard 200 feet away in violation of Berwyn’s noise ordinance.  Driver Luis G. Morales, 22, of Cicero, told police he had no license, but a check of his name revealed his license had been suspended.  He was cited for both offenses and the Buick was impounded.

Puppy stolen from own yard

A female boxer puppy was stolen from a back yard in the 1200 block of Highland.  The owner said a child on a bike told her he saw two women in a white care steal the dog, then drive away eastbound through the south Roosevelt Rd. alley.

Bike thefts

Someone stole a blue and silver bicycle from the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts, 7020 Ogden.

In the 1200 block of Elmwood, someone stole a 26” man’s Huffy bicycle; the bike had been chained in the back yard.

Disregarding stop signs

Police stopped a BMW 318i after seeing it disregard the stop sign at 15th and Ridgeland.  Driver Roberto Lopez, 26, of Cicero, was cited for the blown stop, no license, no insurance, tinted windows, obstructed windshield and only one working red tail light.

A Pontiac Grand Am was pulled over after police saw it blow through the stop sign at 15th and Kenilworth.  Driver Ernesto Ali Ledesma, 21, of the 5300 block of south Sawyer, Chicago, had neither license nor insurance and was cited for all three offenses.

Motorist reports man running with gun

A man told police he was on his way to work in his pickup truck when he saw a man running west on 15th toward Home.  He said the man—a male white or Hispanic, about age 20, wearing a yellow shirt—noticed him when he stopped the truck at the stop sign.  The witness said the man reached to his waistband and pulled out a black revolver.

Carjacking story just spur-of-the-moment invention

A hit and run accident at 13th and Grove involved a Chevy Cavalier and a black Cadillac Deville.  The Cadillac was found unattended in the middle of 13th St. at Kenilworth, with its driver door open.  While police examined the Cadillac, the driver showed up.  Edgar J. Sierra, 21, of Blue Island, initially told police someone tried to carjack him and that caused the crash.  But later, Sierra changed his story, stating there had in fact been no carjack attempt; he just fled the scene out of fear.  He was charged with failure to give information after an accident.

Hydrant blocker

Police towed a black Lincoln Navigator, registered to a woman in the 6700 block of Riverside Drive, after finding it parked in the 1900 block of Wesley blocking a fire hydrant.

Domestic disputes

A woman in the 2400 block of Clarence said her husband, from whom she is separated, punched her in the chest and face, then choked her and fled.  She signed a complaint of domestic battery against the man, who is reportedly living in the 3500 block of west 12th Place, Chicago.

A man in the 1600 block of Ridgeland was charged with two counts of domestic battery.  One female victim said he dragged her around the apartment slamming her head into furniture and walls.  The other said he grabbed her and twisted her arms, leaving scratches.

Paraphernalia palmed

An officer recognized two men and a woman, who were standing in the street in the 1800 block of Gunderson, and asked what was up.  The woman, a block resident, said they were just talking to one of the men because he was leaving.  The officer noticed the other man—44-year-old Jim A. Bralis of Plainfield—was “cupping” his left hand.  When asked about it, Bralis showed the item in his hand:  a glass pipe with copper screening of the type commonly used to smoke crack cocaine.  Bralis was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jeans-in-sleeve, mom’s car missing, bicycle ripoff, statue stolen

A security guard at Marshall’s in Cermak Plaza told police he detained a man he saw conceal a pair of men’s Calvin Klein jeans in the sleeve of his red hoodie.  The guard said the man walked outside without paying and was stopped.  Because of a prior theft conviction, Brian J. Willlis, 19, of the 6100 block of south Wood, Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft.

A woman in the 2800 block of Harvey reported her blue Ford Tempo had been stolen from her garage.
4:16 PM
A mom told police her son went to Walgreen’s, Ogden and Oak Park, and left his bike lying against the wall.  When he came out, it was gone.
6:55 PM
A woman reported seeing a man steal a statue out of her neighbor’s back yard in the 1900 block of Oak Park, east side.  The thief was described as a male white in his early 40s, with brown hair, a dark sweatshirt and jeans.  She said he entered the yard, stole a foot-tall angel statue, placed it inside a beer box and walked away northbound to 19th, then headed east.

Someone apparently used a claw hammer to smash the rear window of a 1989 Ford Thunderbird in the 1200 block of Wesley.

Silver graffiti was found on the rear wall of a building in the 6700 block of Cermak.

Gang graffiti marred an overhead garage door in the 1600 block of Ridgeland.

Graffiti was left on a brick wall in the 2200 block of Oak Park, as well as on trailers parked behind the address.
6:36 PM
Graffiti was found scrawled all over the playground equipment at the park at 19th and Cuyler, as well as on a brick garage wall in the 1800 block of Harvey.

Teacher calls police, says man asked students to “come here”

A call about a suspicious person brought police to the southwest corner of 16th and Gunderson, where stood Kevin John Brown, 42, of Romeoville.  Asked why he was in town, Brown told police he had been visiting a friend in the 1800 block of Gunderson and came to the corner to use the phone.  He said he first tried a phone at 16th and Ridgeland but it was not working.  He said he walked west on 16th after that; once he was in front of Lincoln Middle School, he said, he saw students but did not address them.  But a concerned teacher told police he said “hey, come here,” to students.  Brown received a citation for disorderly conduct, and was advised to leave and not return.
