Vehicle strikes intoxicated pedestrian

May 1, 2008, 11:20 PM
An officer responding to a car vs. pedestrian accident found a woman lying semiconscious in the middle of the 6300 block of 26th St.  Witnesses and the driver of the vehicle, a Cicero man, said the woman was walking a dog when she fell.  He and witnesses said he swerved to avoid her but may have struck her foot.  The victim’s dog was recovered.  The driver passed all field sobriety tests, blew a .000 on the Breathalyzer, and was cited for driving unlicensed and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
The victim—a 45-year-old Cicero woman—had a blood alcohol level of .263, more than three times the legal limit.

May 1, 2008, 4:34 PM
A green Honda Accord was stopped in the 1900 block of East for doing 36 MPH in a 20 MPH zone. Driver Urbano Reyna, 24, of the 1600 block of East, told the officer he had no license.  Asked why, then, was he driving, Reyna told the officer his wife felt unwell.  A check of Reyna’s name showed his license had been revoked; DuPage County also had an active arrest warrant for him.  Reyna was charged with speeding, driving uninsured and felony aggravated driving with a revoked license. The Accord was impounded.

A white Buick was pulled over for disobeying the stop sign at 31st and East.  Driver Veronica M. Casillas, 32, of the 2800 block of north Monroe, Chicago, had a suspended license, and was ticketed for both offenses.  The car was impounded.

A white Chevy van disobeyed the “no left turn 4 to 6 PM” sign at Ogden and Maple.  Driver James R. Jackson, 36, of the 4800 block of west Arthur, Chicago, identified himself with a state ID rather than a license, probably because his license had expired on May 1st of 1998.  He was cited for both offenses.

May 1, 2008, 1:51 PM

Suspicious alley-driving stop results in impound of suspended driver’s car

May 1, 2008, 1:09 AM
An officer saw a black Acura 2-door emerge from an alley at a hurried pace, then turn left onto Clinton and left again onto Cermak.  The officer stopped the Acura at Cermak and Oak Park because use of an alley as a thoroughfare is prohibited.  Driver Vince D. Hodges, 44, of the 1400 block of Lombard, was found to be driving on a suspended license. The car contained a number of toolkits and some stereo-related items.  On the way to the police station, Hodges reportedly told the officer he was visiting his friend “Mario” near 16th and Home, because Mario had just gotten his LINK card activated and wished Hodges to drive him to a grocery store.  While he was on his way to Mario’s place, he said, Mario told him not to come just then because police were there and Mario knew of Hodges’ suspended license.  Hodges received tickets for prohibited alley use and driving suspended; the car was impounded.
