Duelling noises

September 20, 2007, midnight
Police were called to the 2500 block of Scoville, west side, to check on loud music coming from a house.  They were greeted by the loud music, and met with the caller. The man said this happens every night at about the same time and continues until 1 or 2 AM, forcing him and his family to wear earplugs to get any sleep.
Police knocked at the doors of the loud house, but nobody answered.  All the windows of the loud house were closed but one:  a bedroom window facing the complainant’s home.  Because nobody answered, and in fear for the well-being of the resident—a 61-year-old woman—police had fire personnel gain entry though the open window.  Once inside, police easily found the source:  a portable stereo system placed on a table with its speakers aimed at the complainant’s house; it appeared the radio had been set to go off at a certain time.  Police turned off the stereo and resecured the house.  Back at the station, police wrote the woman a citation for “use of premises to disturb the peace”.  While the ticket was being written, the complainant called again to report the stereo was on once more.
This time, police arrived in time to see a woman in the bedroom window by the stereo, in the act of turning up the volume.  She was told to stop cranking the radio and meet police at the front door.  She refused to identify herself or even spell her name for police.
When asked why the loud radio, the woman said it was because her neighbor’s dogs bark too loudly. She said when she called about it, the cops “did nothing.” Police tried to hand the woman her noise ticket, but she refused to take it, so they placed it in her mailbox.
Officers spoke with the neighbor, who agreed to keep his dogs quiet in future.
The court date for the noise-duel case is October 11th at 3 PM at 6401 W. 31st Street, Berwyn.
