Lover’s Paradise robber not yet charged
June 26, 2007
A man who robbed Lover’s Paradise, 6504 Cermak, at 2:45 PM was not armed after all. The “gun” was actually a toy, according to police. Nevertheless, the suspect, when approached, pulled it from his waist and aimed it at Cicero police officers. Seeing this, police shot the suspect. The suspect remains in Loyola Hospital, Maywood, in custody of Illinois State Police. The man has since been identified but not yet charged. Since there was no weapon, the principal charge will likely be aggravated robbery, not armed robbery as stated in reports elsewhere. Police said the man entered the shop, took an item from a display and told the cashier to give him money. When the cashier did not act quickly, he fled, carrying the display item with him. The item was a packaged “dress”; the package, according to police, was about the size and shape of a large postcard. For a clearer idea of the selection of apparel available to the suspect, see this link to Lover’s Paradise website:

The Denali driver yelled at the two combatants, who fled south on Grove. The SUV also left the scene. Later, when the Denali returned, the homeowner told the driver he would be held responsible for the damaged fence. The homeowner added that he was calling police.
