Business gets BB’d

A business in the 6500 block of 16th was found with BB damage to a window.

Police got a call from a motorist who had to stop fast to avoid hitting ladders that fell from the top of a Ford truck onto the street in the 7000 block of Ogden. The driver of the black Ford F150 truck needed a translator. He told police he was Juan C. Martinez, 28, of the 4300 block of south Campbell, Chicago. He said he had no idea why ladders fell off his truck. The driver was cited for spilling a load onto the roadway and driving with a suspended license.
Orange and blue graffiti found on businesses

Two businesses in the 6600 block of Cermak were defaced with graffiti, done in orange and blue spray paint. One building was found with markings 20 feet long, in letters 4 x 4 feet in size. The second had painted graffiti on a glass window.
Restaurant burglary

The owner of a restaurant at 6224 Cermak told police someone broke into the place during the night. The responding officer saw a cut in the plastic window of the outer door and broken glass on the main entry door. Two cash registers were damaged and $250 was stolen.
Buick vs Caddy

A two-car accident at East and 19th involved a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado and a 2007 Buick LaCrosse. Buick driver Jameka Rollins, 32, of Cicero, was cited for disobeying a stop sign, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving on a suspended license.
Cicero man caught switching lanes sans signal

An officer northbound on Harlem near 32nd observed a Honda Accord changing lanes without signaling; the accord also lacked a rear license-plate light. Driver Gerardo Bucio, 21, of Cicero, was cited for driving without a license, failure to use a turn signal and no light on his rear plate.
Teenage beer thief

A worker at Mobil Gas, 6701 Cermak, told police a teen had just stolen a 12-pack of Miller High Life beer. The woman described the suspect as a male Hispanic, 16-18 years old, with a shaved head and a red shirt. He fled southbound on a bicycle.
Pizza driver falls for old trick

A Domino’s driver delivered five pizzas, worth $47.85, to a man in the 6600 block of Cermak. The man took the pizzas, telling the driver he would be right back with the money, but never returned or paid.
Reckless driver seen, recognized, doesn’t care

A man in the 6500 block of 26th Place saw a black Chrysler Cirrus speeding down the block, going so fast it bottomed out on the speed bumps and threw sparks on contact. The witness got the license-plate number, which registered to a Chicago man. He also recognized the driver: a 39-year-old woman living in the 6400 block of 27th. The witness confronted the offender, who yelled profanities and went into her apartment. Police came to the offender’s apartment looking for her, but a man in the flat said she was not at home.

A caller reported seeing four youths spray-painting graffiti onto a garage in the 1900 block of Scoville at 2 PM. The witness also told police the offenders frequently hang out in an unoccupied building on that block. The graffiti consisted of miscellaneous gang stuff done in purple paint. More graffiti was found on a nearby fence.
Driver forces accident, drives off when victim calls cops

A 22-year-old Forest Park man was heading north on Harlem and was in his Ford sedan in the left turn lane approaching Roosevelt, when a Mazda pulled out of the Shell station at Roosevelt and Harlem. The Mazda crossed all lanes to end in front of the Ford. The Ford driver braked but could not avoid hitting the Mazda. The Mazda driver pulled into the Walgreen’s lot on the southwest side of the intersection and started an argument with the victim, but drove off when the Ford driver said he was calling police. The victim gave police the license plate number of the Mazda.
Woman gets punched, won’t sign complaint, thinks better of it six hours later

Police came to the 2100 block of Scoville when someone called 911, then hung up. Officers found a 26-year-old woman who said her husband punched her in the head and back. She would not sign a complaint, but was issued a domestic violence packet. The man agreed to leave for a while.

Police returned for another disturbance at the same address. This time, the woman was ready to sign complaints against her 24-year-old husband. He was charged with domestic battery.
Cicero teen loses car to noise ordinance

A 1995 Honda Civic violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance at 26th and Elmwood was stopped and impounded. Driver Roberto Romo-Padilla, 17, of Cicero, received tickets for driving without a license and for using the car to make too much noise.
Unlicensed speeder narrowly avoids accident on Ogden

Using radar, an officer in the 6400 block of Ogden clocked a 1996 Dodge Ram doing 47 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The truck went so fast, it nearly rear-ended a stopped vehicle, then changed lanes to get around that vehicle without signaling a turn. The driver identified himself using a Mexican ID card. Marcellino Sanchez, 21, of the 2100 block of north Merriman, Chicago, was cited for speeding, failure to signal, and driving without a license.
