Amigo meets enemigo

Someone stole the radio from an Isuzu Amigo parked in the 2200 block of Lombard.
Amplified stereo nearly weapons-grade

Police could hear the blasting stereo of a black Cadillac Escalade from as far as 1,000 feet away as the SUV boomed eastward on 18th from Gunderson to Ridgeland. The Escalade was impounded for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance. Driver Jaime Escobedo Medino, 25, of 1824 Clarence, was also driving unlicensed. He was cited for that and given a $500 noise ticket.

In the 3600 block of Elmwoof, a thrown brick took the side mirror off a parked green Ford Taurus.

Wife’s ride home results in knife display, death threats

Multiple witnesses reported a disturbance in a parking lot behind a residence in the 6900 block of Cermak. Police learned a Cicero man had driven a 43-year-old woman home to that address, where they were confronted by her husband. The husband reportedly pushed the woman to the ground and spit in her face. As the Cicero man tried to intervene, the the report said, the husband displayed a knife in his waistband and stated, “I’ll kill you if you don’t back off.” One witness told police the man also said, “I’ll kill anyone she comes home with”.
Police arrested James Ferguson, 71, of 6919 Cermak. When asked whether he had a knife, Ferguson reportedly said, “No, I ain’t got nothing”. However, police could see a knife in his waistband. They recovered an 8"-long kitchen knife and charged Ferguson with domestic battery and aggravated assault.

A cabdriver told police he picked up a young man from 1365 north Hudson, Chicago, and drove him to 28th and Kenilworth. There, the customer tried to give the cabbie a used cell phone in lieu of the $35 fare. He then ran off, leaving the cell in the cabbie’s possession. Police contacted the man, telling him to pay up or be arrested. The man reportedly responded, “If you know where I am, then come and get me”.
Police obligingly traveled to 2716 Kenilworth and stationed officers at both front and rear doors. While one officer spoke with people at the front door, a man tried to leave via the rear, where he was arrested by the sergeant stationed there. Police said the offender told them “I should have just paid for the cab”. Walter J. Espinoza, 18, was charged with theft of service.
Skaterboys seen spraying street

A garage door in the 3700 block of Home was defaced with graffiti.

A witness saw three males in an alley near Kenilworth and IC train tracks spraying graffiti on the ground. The offenders were described as skateboarders. They were a male white in a green shirt; a male in a dark hoodie; and a male black in a white shirt with red stripes.

Gang graffiti was left on a garage door in the 1900 block of Highland.

Impotence expressed in broken glass

A woman in the 2300 block of Harvey reported someone broke the rear windshield of her green Mercury Villager. The victim thinks the damage is the work of her ex-boyfriend.

Big day for burglars

A woman in the 1800 block of Euclid told police someone smashed her Honda Element’s window and stole her purse. The purse, according to the victim, was a Coach brand bag which contained her debit card and driver’s license. She said she left the purse lying on the front passenger seat.

Someone kicked in the side door of a garage in the 3700 block of Wisconsin and stole a $200 gas lawnmower.

After forcing open the window of a garage in the 1300 block of Maple, a burglar entered the victim’s Corolla and stole and IPod and a pair of eyeglasses.

In the 1300 block of Elmwood, someone kicked in the rear door of a residence. The bedroom dresser was ransacked and the victim reported two laptop computers and some jewelry missing.

A 32-year-old man told police he parked his white Cadillac Escalade in the 7100 block of Cermak for just 40 minutes and found the SUV burglarized. Missing were the in-dash radio, a Kenwood amp, an IPod, and a pair of Dolce & Gabbana shades.

Two attempted burglaries were discovered at homes in the 1800 block of Maple, west side. On one home, the screened side door had been tampered with. On the other, police found damage to the rear door frame and a shoe print on the door. No entry was made in either case.

Dog scares off burglar

A woman in the 6900 block of 21st found the window of her back door broken and called police. Police found the apartment6 ransacked and blood on the bedcovers. Police found fingerprints and took a sample of the blood, which was not that of the ictim. The victim said she was missing a laptop, about 100 CDs, an opal ring and an emerald ring.

A second woman who lived across from the first reported finding her window cracked, apparently from a failed effort to break in. She said she could tell her dog had been jumping up at that window and believed that was what discouraged the offender.
Burglars get in, get out, get nothing

A man in the 1800 block of Maple told police he heard footsteps, and opened his bedroom door to encounter a stranger in the upstairs hallway. The stranger reportedly stated, ‘Oh, f^@k, Josh, let’s get out of here!” and fled downstairs and out of the house with a second offender. Police found the south-side entry door had been kicked in. The victim described the intruder he saw ad a male Hispanic in his 20s-30s, 5’9”, 200 lbs, with brown curly hair and a mustache, wearing a dark blue Carhartt jacket.

An anonymous letter informed police that people continue to smoke inside Junior’s bar, 7011 Ogden, despite the statewide ban. Police came to Junior’s and saw a 30-year-old Stickney man inside, smoking a cigarette. The man said he always smokes there, and so do others. Bar manager Thomas Paine was advised of the complaint. The report will be sent to the Illinois Dept. of Public Health for investigation.

Car alarm alerts but does not motivate

Someone broke into a Buick Regal in the 1600 block of Clarence, stealing two amps and two woofers. The victim, a 22-year-old man, told police he heard his car alarm go off at 1 AM but did not get up to find out why. When he finally came outside at 11 AM, he found his trunk lock pulled out and the electronics missing.
Smallish gym shoes successfully stolen

A security guards at Shoe Carnival, Cermak Plaza, told police a man in a green car just drove off with a pair of stolen shoes. The license of the green car was registered to a man in the 3400 block of west Beach, Chicago. The security guard told police the offender was a male Hispanic in his 20s, 5’6” and 160 lbs, wearing a black skullcap under a black-and-white hoodie, under which he concealed a size 8 pair of Chuck Taylor Converse shoes.

Pot pocket

The tactical team advised other officers to check out a suspicious white Hyundai headed west on 14th. POlice stopped it at East and 15th. The two men in the car said they had nothing illegal and gave permission to search the vehicle. During the subsequent patdown, passenger Esteban P/ Hernandez, 19, of 1401 Cuyler, reportedly stated, “It’s not my jacket, I don’t know what’s in there”. Police found a clear plastic bag of marijuana, totaling 5.2 grams, in the jacket’s pocket. Hernandez was given a $275 pot possession ticket.
