Gun accusation not backed up by search, but bag of pot recovered
October 6, 2008, 10:59 PM
An officer saw a brown Buick with temporary plates—westbound in the 6700 block of 19th—blow the stop sign at Oak Park Ave, nearly striking the squad car. Immediately behind the Buick, also headed west but driving in reverse, was a white Ford SUV. The Ford’s driver yelled out his window that people in the Buick had pointed a gun at him. The officer told the Ford driver to pull over and remain at 19th and Oak Park; he then stopped the Buick in the 1900 Oak Park/Grove alley. No gun was found in the Buick, but a bag of marijuana lay in plain view on the floor. Passenger Kasey Brown, 26, of 1928 Euclid, was arrested and cited for marijuana possession. Buick driver Cedric T. Jones, 25, of 2123 Kenilworth, had a suspended license and was wanted on a DuPage County arrest warrant. He was charged with blowing the stop sign, no insurance and driving on a suspended license.

October 6, 2008, 3:31 PM
Tactical officers noticed when a dark blue 1997 Suburban, whose plates registered to a Cicero man, traveled southbound through the 1400 block of Gunderson/Scoville alley, then onto eastbound 15th. Because the car went through an alley in an area that has suffered a rash of property crimes, police pulled it over. Driver Cristobal Hernandez, 1645 Ridgeland, told police the vehicle was not his. Police came to Ogden and Oak Park Ave., woke the driver, shut off the Caddy and took the keys. When asked whether he was ok, driver Daniel Gerard Mitchell, 53, of 3137 Oak Park, replied, “I was just tired.” Mitchell was unable to tell police where he was headed or where he had been. He failed numerous field sobriety tests, urinated in his pants and refused a breath test. He was cited for DUI, improper parking on the roadway, no insurance, and transportation of open alcohol.
