Robber batters businesswoman in front of bank, gets away with thousands in cash

A 48-year-old woman walking to Aztec America Bank at Oak Park and Cermak, said a man punched her in the face and robbed her. The woman, who was carrying a bag containing checks and cash from her store, said she intended to make a deposit. But after the man hit her, she dropped the bag. The offender tore open the bag, stole $5,600 in cash, and fled on foot northbound. Witnesses saw him enter an apartment building on the east side of the 2100 block of Oak Park Avenue, then emerge a few minutes later wearing a black skullcap. The offender was described as a male black, about 25, 6’ tall, in baggy jeans and a black hoody with the hood up. The hoody featured a blue and red design on the front.

Beating up baby-mama won’t erase back child support

Police answering a domestic disturbance call in the 2700 block of Clarence were met by a weeping 28-year-old woman , who said her ex-boyfriend not only refused to pay child support for their kids, he also pushed her down and pulled her hair. Police charged the 28-year-old man with domestic battery.

Bottle-bashing reported at bar

Police were called to Tiger O’Stylies bar in the 6300 block of Ogden; two men reportedly attacked a third man. A witness said two men with their hoods up walked up to a man who was sitting and drinking, hit him over the head with a beer bottle, and left the bar. The victim left after using a towel to cover his head wounds. All participants in the incident were gone by the time police arrived.

Co-ed wrestling match over a dollar ends in stabbing; winner goes to jail

A 35-year-old man was found with multiple cuts and punctures to his back and arm after a disturbance in the 2300 block of Ridgeland. The man said he argued and wrestled with a woman over a wallet containing $1.00. A second woman then stabbed him with a knife. Police could see a silver and black serrated knife lying on a table with blood on its blade. Despite his wounds, the man said he did not want the stabber arrested, stating that he would refuse to appear in court. The woman was charged with domestic battery; no felony was approved because of the victim’s unwillingness to sign a complaint.

Wednesday afternoon’s activities: drinking, trash talk and a punch in the nose

A man called police to say he was battered by another man in the 6400 block of Cermak. Police met the victim in front of Family Liquors, 6428 Cermak; he told them the man responsible for his bloody nose was still inside the bar. Police met with the alleged offender, who said the victim had gotten “in his face” by repeatedly telling the offender he hated him. After hearing this kind of talk, he punched the 31-year-old victim in the face. Police charged 35-year-old Mario D. Guerrero, of the 5200 block of south Mason, Chicago, with one count of battery.

A man in the 2100 block of Kenilworth told police his girlfriend hit him and scratched him during an argument. But the woman said he hurt her; she had a large scratch and several bleeding cuts on her arm. The man was charged with domestic battery.

Police came to a nightclub after a woman reported being battered there. The 34-year-old woman, a customer at Inclusive, 6319 Roosevelt, said a man punched her in the face. The woman, who works at a mortgage company, got into a verbal dispute with a 39-year-old man whose mortgage is held by her employer. During this dispute, she said, the man struck her in the face with his fist. When police first spoke to the man, he denied even knowing the victim. Later his story changed, and he admitted speaking to her but denied any physical altercation. 39-year-old Raymond Boston was charged with batter. Police ticketed Inclusive’s manager, Vernon D. Weaver, for failure to notify Berwyn police of a bar fight.

Burglar steals safe, DVDs, etc

A man in the 2500 block of East told police he returned home to find the door to his apartment unlocked. He said someone stole a 2 x 2 foot safe, a TV/DVD player; 20 DVDs, including 4 that were rated X; five cartons of cigars, two cartons of Marlboro cigarettes, and a black leather jacket.

Man charged with beating, kicking woman

A woman from the 1800 block of Harlem said her boyfriend, age 32, was on drugs when he punched her in the face, kicked her in the stomach and fled to his mom’s place in Westchester. Westchester police rounded him up and brought him to Berwyn, where he was charged with domestic battery.
Man beaten bloody with bat refuses to sign complaint

An anonymous caller informed police of a disturbance in the 6500 block of 12st. Police found a 44-year-old man bleeding from the head. The man, a resident of the 6600 block of Cermak, told officers two men hit him repeatedly with a bat while they were in the nearby apartment of one of the men. He refused to sign a battery complaint.

Man seeks to raise self-esteem by battering woman

An abandoned 911 call brought police to the 2200 block of Ridgeland. There, a 24-year-old woman told them her live-in boyfriend yelled at her, grabbed and shook her, and left her with a cut on her wrist. The woman stated he has “serious self esteem problems” and has been violent lately. Police charged the 23-year-old man with domestic battery.

Chicago man has battery charges waiting for him

A Berwyn woman told police her boyfriend --a man from the 4400 block of west Maypole, Chicago--not only struck her several times, he also hit her sister. The woman said the offender also threw her furniture around, breaking two coffee tables. She signed a domestic battery complaint against the 30-year-old man; her sistered signed a complaint of battery.

Chicago man has three women fighting over him

Police were dispatched to a fight in the 2100 block of Wesley, and en route were flagged down by a 29-year-old Cicero woman. The woman said two other women battered her and could be found sitting in a van parked in front of Ixtapa restaurant, 6714 Cermak. Police located the van, which was parked next to a red Chevy Blazer; they met with the van’s occupants, a 17-year-old female from the 2600 block of Home, and a 24-year-old Cicero woman. The women from the van said they emerged from Ixtapa with a man. When the 29-year-old woman saw her boyfriend walking with these two, they said, she grabbed the teen and hit the older woman in the face. The man—a 34-year-old from the 2600 block of Ridgeway, Chicago—did not wish to give police any information. The stories told by the participants willing to talk were in conflict. During this episode, the red Chevy Blazer drove away, so police stopped it at Vacin and Elmwood to see whether it was involved. It was not; however, driver Placido Herrera, 21, of CIcero, had no license or insurance, and the Blazer was towed.

Police were sent to Guadalajara restaurant, Ogden and Harlem, where they found a 22-year-old man with blood all over his face and shirt. The man, a resident of the 3600 block of Scoville, tried to enter the bar but was denied entry because 2) he had already reached a state of intoxication and b) he was bleeding from a cut on his head. When questioned by police, the victim stated he was approached by “1 to 4” male Hispanics in the parking lot, who asked him, “Who you run with?”, then punched him in the face. No witnesses saw anything. The victim said “at least one” of the offenders had a shaved head.
