Gang member with violent history asked to get off couch, go away

June 22,2008, 6:09 PM
A woman in the 1400 block of Lombard called police when a man she feared fell asleep on her couch.  The man was the father of three of the woman’s children.  The woman told police she fears him because he once broke her jaw; she also said he belonged to a well-known street gang and had threatened to get “the [name of ethnic group here]” to hurt her.  Police observed the abusive language the man used in talking to the woman; a check of his name showed him to be an active gang member.  The man agreed to leave “for a while.”

She called him a cheater, rammed his car, threw a brick at him and took off with his keys …

June 21, 2008, 4:23 AM
... but he thinks he can still “work it out” with her.

A Hillside man told police he was driving his Honda Accord on Harlem, following his 36-year-old Brookfield girlfriend as she drove her black Mitsubishi.  He said she was trying to find a bar that was still open so she could continue drinking.  The man said as they drove, they talked on their cell phones; he said he was trying to convince the woman to go home instead.  The couple pulled over on Harlem, and the man got out of his car and into the Mitsubishi’s passenger seat to continue their chat.  An argument began in which the woman accused the man of infidelity.  The man told her he was through talking, and got back into his car.  Unfortunately, he had left his car keys in the Mitsubishi.  The woman drove north, made a U-turn, and threw a brick at the Accord.  She headed north once more, made another U-turn and ran her car into his.

Pplice asked the man whether he wished to sign a complaint.  The man decided against it, saying he believed he could patch things up between them.

Drunken pair fight each other, refocus their displeasure on police

June 13, 2008, 12:48 AM
An officer patrolling the Roosevelt Rd alley near Clarence was tipped off by a witness to a disturbance in the back yard of a house on the east side of the 1200 block of Clarence.  There, the officer encountered a drunken 19-year-old man who had scratches on his torso and an uncooperative attitude.  Also in the yard was the man’s girlfriend—an 18-year-old female, also uncooperative—who approached the officer in an aggressive manner.  The woman told the officer that the disturbance was “none of his f@*#ing business!”

Backup units arrived and other people emerged from the house.  The woman told police she and the man argued and she scratched him up because she was upset. The man agreed and said they fight “all the time,” then squared off against police in a threatening manner as the woman yelled profanities.  She was arrested for domestic battery; the man was charged with obstruction and underage drinking.

Burglary investigation leads cops to baby left all alone in apartment

June 12, 2008, 4:54 AM
A caller told police a man tried to enter a basement window in the 1600 block of Wesley.  Police found no burglar, but did see a damaged window.  The landlady told police she had seen a man in a red and white shirt yelling “LYNN! LYNN”; then she heard breaking glass and saw the man heading north on the sidewalk. She let police into the basement apartment.  No adults were present, but an 18-month-old baby was alone in a crib.  DCFS took custody of the baby boy, who was not injured but wore a soiled diaper.

12:40 PM
Nearly eight hours later, police located the baby’s mother at 31st and Austin in Cicero.  Police told the 26-year-old woman what had happened, and asked why she left her baby alone.  The woman said her ex-boyfriend was trying to break in, so she fled and left the baby behind.  When asked where she went for the next nearly eight hours, the woman reportedly said, “Just on the street, staying away from [the ex]”. At no time, police said, did the woman call 911 or contact anyone for help.  Police received no inquiries about the baby from 5 AM to 12:40 PM, and not once during the interview with the mother did she ask how or where her baby was.  She was charged with endangering the life of a child.
