Tuesday garage burglaries

A man in the 1600 block of Wisconsin reported someone forced his side garage door and stole a $230 black leather jacket.

The side door of a garage in the 1600 block of Highland was forced open, enabling the burglar to steal a ladder from inside.

Burglars hit garage, house, van

A man from the 2500 block of Kenilworth told police someone entered his garage via an unlocked door, then broke a window on the Cadillac parked inside. The offender appeared to have tried but failed to remove the chrome rims from the car.

A couple left their house in the 3200 block of Highland with their dog at 9 AM and returned less than an hour later to find someone had visited in their absence. A bedroom window was opened from the outside, and the family room and bedroom were ransacked.

A man reported his company vehicle, a white Astrovan, was burglarized while parked in the 3400 block of Grove. The offender stole a voltage meter and a toolbelt from inside.

Burglaries: alarm only, plus thefts of various types

An officer in the 6900 block of Ogden found Radio Shack’s back door standing open, after the burglar alarm went off and alerted police. There was no sign of forced entry, and the interior was in good order.

Someone broke into a garage in the 2600 block of Highland by forcing the service door. The burglar entered the unlocked vehicle parked inside and stole a toolbox and a video camera.

A woman reported returning to her home in the 3000 block of Euclid the previous evening at 9 PM and finding her back door pried open and a bicycle stolen from inside.
Electronics stolen in vehicle break-ins

A gold Jeep Cherokee parked near 38th and Wisconsin was found with a side window shattered and an $850 in-dash stereo/TV unit stolen.

A man in the 1500 block of Home reported someone broke into his KIA minvan and stole a $699 GPS system.
Garage, business, residential burglaries; puppy missing

An officer found a garage in the 2200 block of Gunderson with its door standing open. Inside was an SUV with one window broken out, though the owner said all that was missing was a container of CDs. The other SUV in the garage was still locked, windows intact, but the owner said two speaker boxes had been removed from the rear of the vehicle.

The manager of a business in the 7000 block of Cermak told police he locked up the previous night, then arrived at 10 AM to find the rear door broken in. Nothing was missing except for the manager’s personal portable DVD player.

A maintenance man for an apartment building in the 6400 block of 18th reported finding a rear-door window open on the first floor, then looking up to see the same thing on the next story. Items removed from one apartment included a luggage set, radio and DVD player.

A man in the 6500 block of Stanley reported someone entered his apartment; when then man returned home, he found a window damaged and his puppy missing.
Vehicle burglaries of the day

A man reported someone broke a window on his parked red Mercury Mystique, parked in the 2200 block of Gunderson, and stole the CD/stereo.

An officer saw a white Geo Metro parked in the 2200 block of Elmwood with a broken window; the JBL stereo, worth $250, was ripped out. During this investigation, police found a home stereo system sitting inside a box behind a property in the 2200 block of Ridgeland. The stereo, in good condition, was a Realistic AM/FM/CD/cassette model with two speakers.

A Chevy sedan parked in the 2300 block of Elmwood was found with a broken window and its $350 Pioneer stereo ripped from the dash.

Someone entered a parked white Chevy van in the 2300 block of Elmwood and stole its Kenwood stereo.

Burglary victim: third time

A woman got home to the 2100 block of Highland to find the rear door open and two bedrooms ransacked. She said this was the third time burglars had struck her home in the past few months. Police were able to get prints from the scene.
Burglars steal stuff from car, truck, but fail with Jeep

A man in the 3700 block of Clarence heard his car alarm go off. When he checked on his silver Honda Civic, he found it had a shattered window, damage to the dash, and a missing $200 Jensen stereo.

Someone pried open a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup truck, parked in the 6900 block of 30th Place, and stole tools and a briefcase. A black Jeep in the same block was found with dashboard damage, apparently done in a failed effort to take the stereo.

Two Harvey burglaries

A man found someone pried open a window of his Astro van—parked in the 3500 block of Harvey—and stole tools and painting equipment valued at $2,100. Many of the tools, the victim told police, are engraved with the name of his business.

A man in the 2600 block of Harvey reported heavy damage to the side door of his garage when an unknown offender forced it open. $5,000 worth of tools were stolen from inside.

Sound system stolen

A man in the 2700 block of Harvey told police someone entered his garage via an open service door, entered the Buick sedan parked within, and stole both the in-dash stereo and the in-trunk amp, valued at $2,000.
Vandalism to vehicles, residences reported

Someone threw bricks through two front windows in the 2200 block of Scoville; the victim awoke to the sound of breaking glass.

A man told police someone damaged his two cars as they were parked in the 2300 block of Gunderson. His white Dodge Intrepid had a smashed window; his black Pontiac Grand Am had its left rear quarter panel damaged. The burglar stole electronics from both cars.

A man in the 2100 block of Harvey reported someone shot out a side window on his Dodge Caravan, possibly with a pellet gun.

An Infiniti truck parked in the 3400 block of Cuyler was found with a broken-out driver’s side window.

A 48-year-old man complained of someone breaking a window by the door of his residence in the 2700 block of Euclid.

A resident in the 2200 block of Cuyler reported a broken fence, and told police kids playing in the alley may have done it, as they regularly go into private yards. Police approached the group of kids and advised them against trespassing on the property of others.

Wallet in unlocked truck leaves with burglar

A man in the 3800 block of Clarence reported someone entered his unlocked black Ford pickup truck and stole the wallet the owner left in the glovebox. The wallet contained an Illlinois license, state ID and two VISA cards.
Bikes removed from garage sans permission

A 41-year-old woman from the 6900 block of 26th reported someone entered her unlocked residence between 11:30 AM and 1 PM and stole her purse. The purse, she said, contained a driver’s license, checkbook, savings passbook, two credit cards, prescriptions, medical papers, $2,200 in cash and a LINK card.
