Someone broke open a garage service door in the 2300 block of Highland and stole an electric saw; a toolbox; a punching bag, and two bicycles.

A man in the 3300 block of Cuyler found someone broke a window on his Mazda two-door and stole a Kenwood CD/radio, a Rockford amp; a Kicker amp, and two 10” speakers.

Someone stole a 24-foot aluminum ladder from a back yard in the 3800 block of home. A neighbor saw a blue vehicle park behind the victim’s garage, then drive away with the ladder on its roof.

A woman in the 2200 block of Harvey said someone opened a window of her residence and stole 50 pieces of gold jewelry, $300 cash and an iPod from within.

The manager of GameStop, 6631 Roosevelt Rd, reported 59 PlayStation games missing from a secure drawer behind the counter. When he checked surveillance videos, he saw that the previous day, three black males in their 20s came into the store—one holding a baby—and two distracted the manager while one removed the games.

A woman in the 3400 block of Grove told police someone broke into her garage and removed numerous items, including tools, a bicycle, vintage car parts and a vintage car: a 1966 Ford Mustang.

A couple from the 2800 block of Wisconsin told officers they saw a stranger walk out of their gangway at 9:45 PM, get into a white car and drive away. An officer saw possible pry marks on the door, but no entry was made.

Grocery-shopper’s purse left in, stolen from, car

A 38-year-old Stickney woman told police she parked her Honda Civic at the Berwyn Fruit Market, 3811 Harlem, while she went shopping. Forty-five minutes later, she returned to her car to find her black leather purse was no longer where she left it on the back seat. The vehicle was locked, but the woman said some of the windows had been left open a bit. The stolen purse contained $31 cash, an Illinois driver’s license, a health insurance card and six credit cards, according to the victim.

A man in the 1300 block of Clarence found pry marks on his door and door-frame, and reported the apparent attempted burglary to police.
Jewelry taken, torn picture left behind

A couple in an apartment in the 7100 block of Windsor reported their place was entered by a burglar while they were out from morning to early afternoon. The returned to find their door standing open and a kitchen window forced open. Police retrieved fingerprints and shoe prints at the scene. Stolen items included $125 cash; a gold and diamond ring, and a 22-inch gold chain with a medallion of Jesus and Mary. The offender also ripped a photo in half and left the pieces there.
Dog tried to warn him

A man in the 2800 block of Harvey told police his dog barked at the side door of the house during the night. Later, the man found the side gate open and a garage window broken out. The burglar entered the unlocked Toyota Celica in the garage and tore the Alpine stereo out of the dash. Also stolen from the garage was a dark blue Cannondale mountain bicycle.

A man who parked his Ford Explorer overnight in the 2500 block of Ridgeland found someone broke out the front passenger window of the SUV and stole the in-dash stereo, as well as a TV monitor. Residents of that block are suspected in the crime.

Someone forced open the side door of a garage in the 2400 block of Grove and stole a binder containing about 500 CDs.

A 28-year-old man in the 6500 block of Stanley reported someone broke his Jeep’s window and stole a CD player.

An unlocked garage in the 3800 block of Home contained an unlocked Nissan Altima. A burglar stole the following from the car: a wallet, $30 cash, three credit cards, an Illinois license and state ID, and a Social Security card.

In the 2500 block of Clinton, an unknown offender forced the service door of a garage and stole tools, a 10-ft ladder, a Sears lawnmower, and an autojack: total value, $2,000.

In the 6500 block of 33rd, a man told police his garage service door was damaged; the burglar stole an electric snowblower, electric chainsaw, six fishing poles and a tackle box.

The victim of a garage burglary in the 2500 block of Oak Park Ave told police the offender entered via the overhead door and stole tools, an air-conditioner unit and two mountain bikes. Also, the in-dash stereos and an infant carseat were stolen from the cars parked in the garage.

A couple from the 6300 block of 26th returned to their flat to find all the window screens had been removed. The windows, however, were still locked.

A burglar entered a home in the 1500 block of Wenonah through a kitchen window, and stole jewelry and coins.

An unlocked side door was an invitation to a thief, who took two bicycles and a bag of tools from a garage in the 1900 block of Cuyler.

A burglar entered a garage in the 3600 block of Ridgeland through an unlocked service door and stole a tall toolbox, a child’s bicycle, garden tools and a pool water pump.

A pry tool was used to break in via the side door of a garage in the 1600 block of Kenilworth. The offender stole a red Craftsman mower.
Interrupted in mid-burgle: offender drops tool, runs away

A caller in the 2200 block of Grove called police to report a man was banging on the side of a house. En route to the scene, police got an update: now the man was inside a tan SUV parked on that block. Police pulled in behind the tan Chevy Blazer, shone a spotlight inside it and saw a man move from the driver’s seat across the passenger seat and jump out through the passenger door. He threw down a large screwdriver and fled westbound through gangways in the 2200 block of Grove. Police chased him, yelling “police”, but the man did not stop. He removed a brown hoody and flung it to the ground as he ran. Police chased the man through three different yards before losing sight of him. The original caller could not described the offender except she believed he was black. The Blazer had a broken window and a damaged steering column. One officer was injured by a fall during the foot chase. The car yielded fingerprints, and the investigation continues.

A woman in the 6800 block of 29th Place woke up and found the back gate she had closed the night before was standing open. As she made this discovery, she also found her garage’s service door kicked in; her lawn mower was stolen.

Another garage side door forced, this time in the 1200 block of Clarence. The offender made off with a tablesaw valued at $250.

Pry marks were found around an overhead garage door that was forced open in the 2100 block of Highland. Stolen items included a yellow mower, an extension cord and a gas can.

A garage in the 1300 block of Oak Park Avenue was found with its side door, doorframe and deadbolt damaged; a red MTD Yard Machine lawnmower was stolen.

The victim of a burglary in the 1800 block of Gunderson told police someone entered through the garage’s unlocked service door and got into the—also unlocked—Mercury Sable parked within. The offenders removed $50 in cash, $50 worth of CDs, a $100 tennis racket, a $75 paintball gun and a 1940s bottle of whiskey. The keys, which had been left in the car, were also stolen.

A man in the 1200 block of Kenilworth reported someone broke into his garage’s side door and stole a $300 mower; a $50 18-ft ladder; and a $25 hydraulic jack.

An uninvited someone entered a house in the 1300 block of Cuyler via the unlocked back doors. Stolen: a $600 Toshiba laptop; a $40 router; eight bottles of Cazadores tequila, worth $45 each; and three bottles of cologne valued at 50 bucks apiece.

Someone forced the side door of a garage in the 2600 block of Harvey, removing a $300 air compressor and $1,800 worth of tools.

In the 1200 block of Grove, someone broke in via the service door and entered the unlocked Nissan parked within. The burglar stole a laptop, a $380 car stereo, two 15” speakers valued at $300, and a 12” amp.
