Suspicious man seen casing car before burglary

The victim of a car burglary told police he parked his car in the 6400 block of 19th at 3:30 AM, then smoked a cigarette.  As he smoked, he said, he noticed a man walking back and forth between the Ridgeland/Elmwood alley and Elmwood Avenue.  The victim said he then moved his car around the corner to the 1900 block of Elmwood and entered his residence.  When he returned to the vehicle at 10:20 AM, he found the driver door ajar.  His Kenwood stereo/CD player and about 300 CDs were stolen.  The victim described the suspicious person as a male Hispanic in his early 30s, 5’6”, 155 lbs, dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts, and with a shaved head.
10:37 AM
In the 2300 block of East, someone got into a Chevy Astrovan by opening a window, then stole the in-dash radio.

Men seen scoping out cars prior to burglaries

Callers reported two suspicious males checking for unlocked car doors at 19th and Elmwood.  A responding officer noticed a blue Buick LeSabre with its driver door open; the Sony CD/radio had been stolen.  In the same area police also found a black Pontiac Grand Prix with a missing radio; the car was registered to someone from the 1700 block of north Whipple, Chicago.

Volkswagen, garage burglaries

The owner of a VW parked in the 3400 block of Euclid reported an iPod and a trenchcoat missing from the vehicle. A neighbor did not witness the theft, but reported seeing three men on bikes earlier in the week; the men were riding down the street, looking into car windows.
4:39 PM
Someone broke into a garage in the 3600 block of Grove and stole a chainsaw, hedge trimmers and a 100-foot extension cord.

Cirrus break-in

In the 3600 block of Wesley, the victim of a car burglary heard his car alarm, then looked out to see his door open and a man sitting in the driver’s seat, removing the stereo.  The victim tried to grab the offender, who dropped the stereo and fled on foot through yards.

Burglaries—one with a rather narrow suspect pool

A Dodge pickup truck was broken into in the 7100 block of 18th.  The victim said a handtruck and a 5-foot ladder were stolen.

In the 2100 block of Euclid, a tenant told police she thinks a next-door neighbor stole her kids’ PS2 and WII devices.  The suspect’s girlfriend allegedly told the victim that, if her boyfriend did it, he probably took the items to a pawnshop on Harlem.

A woman in the 1600 block of Ridgeland reported someone kicked her door in and stole the stereo, two flat screen TVs and a piggy bank.

Purse thief wore distinctive hairstyle

A Chicago woman told police an unknown man stole a gold purse from her car at 16th and Euclid.  An officer saw the theft and pursued the man on foot, but lost sight of him in the 1600 block of Oak Park Ave.  The thief was described as a male white, 18-21, in a grey shirt and blue jeans, with a shaved head and Mohawk-style ponytail.

In the 1200 block of Kenilworth, a burglar stole power tools, a mower and alcoholic beverages from a garage.
6:02 PM
A bike and a power washer were stolen from a garage in the 2500 block of Clarence.
6:45 PM
Someone forced the door of a garage in the 3800 block of Wesley, stealing a lawnmower, tools and a computer.

Someone broke a window of a Nissan Murano, parked behind the 6200 block of Cermak, and stole a GPS unit.

Auto and garage burglaries

A Cicero man told police parked his Honda Passport at Tiger O’Stylie’s in the 6300 block of Ogden, and someone stole a laptop, a “Zune” player and a digital camera out of the vehicle.
7:06 PM
A resident of the 1500 block of Wisconsin found the service door to his garage ajar; the frame showed pry marks.  The following items were stolen:  a Toro mower, a cement saw, a hammer drill, a hand grinder, a reciprocating saw, a leaf blower, and electric tree trimmer, two body harnesses used for roof work, an electric bicycle, and two regular bicycles.
9:09 PM
Tools were taken from a pried-open garage in the 1400 block of Kenilworth.

Auto burglaries

In the 6900 block of Windsor, a woman reported someone entered her unlocked Chevy Cobalt and stole her Illinois Tollway I-PASS, $3 in coins, and some personal papers.

A man in the 3600 block of Harlem found someone had popped out the rear door lock of his Ford van, then stolen several tools from the vehicle.

Gangway trespassers, burglary tools?

Police came to the 1600 block of Clarence on reports of two suspicious men, dressed in dark clothing, seen running through a gangway. A woman on the block said she heard people running past her house, then heard the doorbell ring and called 911. Two men seen running in that area stopped just as police arrived.  One was a 22-year-old from Cicero; the other was a 23-year-old from the 1900 block of Clarence.  Nearby, on the ground, lay four gloves and a flathead Craftsman screwdriver.

Auto burglary at 18th and Wisconsin, auto theft on Ogden

Someone broke a window on a Mitsubishi Outlander parked on 18th near Wisconsin, stealing a GPS unit from within.

A Pontiac Montana was stolen from the 6900 block of Ogden.
