Dog bites dog, wheelchair-bound woman

January 28, 2008, 8:33 PM
A woman in the 1200 block of Highland reported a neighbor’s dog attacked her.  The victim said she went outside with her dog because she heard a hard bumping noise from her garage.  As she opened her gate and entered the alley, a neighbor’s dog jumped its fence and attacked her pet.  The victim recognized the dog as “Bobby”, a German Shepherd mix owned by 48-year-old Pedro Morales of that block.  Morales came out and tried to separate the dogs.  “Bobby” bit the victim on the knee as she sat in her wheelchair.  Police photographed the puncture wounds.  The dog was seized for observation.  Morales was cited for no city tag, dog at large, and keeping a dangerous animal.

Ridgeland Rottweiler bites again

January 1, 2007, 11:47 AM
A 43-year-old man from the 1600 block of Cuyler told police he took a walk to visit family members in the 1500 block of Ridgeland.  As he walked along their back yard sidewalk, next to the fence, the next-door neighbor’s large black two-year-old male Rottweiler dog jumped up and bit his coat sleeve.  Police spoke with dog owner Jacinto Vega, 33, who told them he could not afford to replace his fence, which at only four feet is clearly inadequate to fully contain the dog.  Vega was cited last October when the same dog bit a passerby; the link to that incident is below:

Elderly owner bitten by aggressive pet

December 14, 2007, 3:14 PM
Police sent to the 2800 block of Harvey about a dog bite found a mixed-breed male dog on the front steps of a house, next to a pool of blood.  An 87-year-old woman, a resident of the 2700 block of Harvey, was following her own at-large dog, and asked a woman from the 2800 block whether she had a leash.  The woman did not, but provided the dog owner with two shoelaces tied together.  As the owner tied the laces to the dog, the dog bit her in the right hand.  Both women then went inside the house, leaving the dog unsecured and unattended on the porch as they called 911.  The dog, “King”, growled, snapped and bared its teeth at responding officers, who finally secured it with a dog-catching noose.  The owner told police “King” is four years old and has escaped his yard “a few times”.  But neighbors said the dog is frequently unleashed and aggressive.  Police checked the dog owner’s yard and found the fencing was completely inadequate to contain the animal, who could easily escape.  The owner was cited for having a dog at large and having a dog at large displaying aggressive behavior.  She was unable to sign these citations because of her injury:  the 3” by 2” bite wound the dog inflicted on her right hand.

NOW, IT BITES: SAME PITBULL, SECOND INCIDENT—owner lives where??

October 23, 2007, 9:15 PM
A woman from the 1200 block of north Ridgeland told police her son was treated at Loyola hospital for wounds to his shin and ankle after a pitbull bit the child.  The boy was playing in the alley with a friend, when he decided to go into the friend’s house in the 1200 block of Elmwood.  As the boy entered the friend’s back yard, a brown and white male pitbull bit him.  Police came to the 1200 block of Elmwood and spoke to the owner of the biting dog:  Raul Castro, 36, who gave an address in the 3100 block of north Natchez, Chicago*.  Castro confirmed the mom’s story.  Police informed him that because it bit someone, the pitbull had to be taken away for a 10-day observation period.

*Castro is mentioned in a pitbull incident less than two weeks before but gave a different address at that time:
