Captured pitbull wore Cubs gear

Police captured a male brindle pitbull, at large in the 6900 block of Windsor; the dog was wearing a Chicago Cubs collar with tags. The owner, a 22-year-old man from that block, received a ticket for having an at-large dog.

Dog bite complaint

A man told police he was bitten by a German Shepherd dog. The man said he was taking his trash out to the alley when the dog, which was secured in its own fenced yard in the 2100 block of Wesley, jumped up on the fence and bit him. The dog’s owner told police he knows the fence is too small for the dog and has has asked the city for a permit to build a taller fence, but was denied.

Dog seizes open-gate opportunity to bite leashed dog

A woman from the 3000 block of Oak Park told police she was walking her terrier-mix dog on its leash in the 3000 block of Wesley/Clarence alley when she saw a male Shih-tszu mix emerge from a back yard through an open gate. The at-large dog attacked her dog, she reported, leaving puncture wounds. Police spoke to the biter’s owner, who said she saw the open gate when she let her dog back inside, but was unaware he had left the premises. Mary E. Thompson, 3028 Clarence, was cited for having a dog with no tags and having a dog at large.

Puppy stolen from own yard

A female boxer puppy was stolen from a back yard in the 1200 block of Highland. The owner said a child on a bike told her he saw two women in a white care steal the dog, then drive away eastbound through the south Roosevelt Rd. alley.

Dogs at large on Gunderson

Police captured two dogs running unsupervised in the 1900 block of Gunderson. One was a brown male puggle, in a collar without tags. The other was a black and white female pitbull mix, also wearing a collar with no tags.

Dog reportedly lunged at woman, small child

A woman told police she was with her two-year-old child when a large tan pitbull ran out of a residence in the 7000 block of 26th Parkway. She said the dog was called back into the house before it made contact with them, but still.
Pitbull pup abandoned

Someone abandoned a pitbull puppy in the west alley of the 1500 block of Harvey. The dog was tan in color and wearing a black collar.

Pitbull kills small leashed dog

An officer responding to a call about dogs at large came to 16th and Wenonah and saw another officer pick up a small, injured dog. A 29-year-old woman told police she was standing at 16th and Wenonah with her infant in a stroller and her dog on a leash, waiting for her older child to get out of school, when two or three large dogs ran up and attacked her little dog. Two bystanders helped pull the attacking dogs off her pet, but it was too late. The little dog died of its injuries, which included puncture wounds to its heart and lungs. Many children were present in the area, as school had just let out. Jason M. Oliveros, 22, of 7032 16th, told police he was the owner of the large dogs, which were pitbulls. He said he did not know how they got out of the back yard. Police seized the dogs and issued tickets to Olveros.

Dogs know who lives on their block and who does not

A man complained two dogs, both leashed, bit him. The 23-year-old man—a resident of the 1700 block of west 21st in Chicago—was riding his bicycle through the north alley behind the 2300 block of Gunderson at the time. The dogs’ owner, who was walking her leashed dogs in her own alley, said the bicycle startled the dogs.

Dog takes self shopping

Police came to Walgreens at Ogden and Oak Park on reports a dog had walked into the store, alone. Tags from the Animal Welfare League showed the dog, a cream-colored male poodle, was recently adopted by a woman in the 1900 block of Clarence, a couple of miles north. Police tried phoning, then knocking at the owner’s door, but ultimately had to take the dog to A-American veterinary for safekeeping. The owner was later given a ticket for allowing the dog to be at large.

Aggressive-dog complaint

A man in the 1400 block of Grove told police his neighbor’s large German Shepherd dog charges the fence in a very aggressive manner whenever it is let outside, scaring the complainant’s entire family. The man said he feared the dog may be able to get over the fence. He said he had already discussed the dog and its incessant barking with the owner, but nothing had changed. Police issued tickets to the 38-year-old dog owner for having a dog without tags and having an animal as the source of a noise disturbance.

Dog reportedly stolen by couple

A woman from the 1500 block of Wenonah told police her stepson was walking his Pitbull/Rottweiler-mix dog on their block when a man and woman drove up to him, said “That’s our dog,” took the dog, and drove away in a red pickup truck.

Dog follows stranger away from own home

A woman from the 3000 block of Euclid was cited for having a dog at large and having no tags after her Chow-mix dog followed a woman, who then turned the animal in to police.

Pitbull mix found at large again

A pitbull/Lab mix dog wearing a red collar and ID tag was found at large in the 6400 block of 16th. Police took the dog to A-American veterinary. Later, an officer found a previous ticket issued to the dog’s owner, 19-year-old Julio Ardenas of the 1200 block of Gunderson, for the same dog being at large on February 21. Police contacted Ardenas, told him the dog was at A-American, and informed him he would have to visit the police station before he could retrieve the animal.

Dog guards own yard from strangers

A 30-year-old woman from the 1300 block of Kenilworth told police her black Labrador retriever was bitten by another dog. The woman said she was walking the Lab by a property in the 1300 block of Clinton, when she stopped and allowed the Lab to approach a fence and sniff a shepherd-mix dog, which was secured inside a fenced yard on its own property. When the Lab got close, the shepherd bit it on the nose. The Lab owner told police she was unable to make contact with the shepherd’s owner.
